P2P file sharing get colleges in trouble

File sharing in the United States is a big issues and it has been getting out of hand. I personally only use torrents site such Iso hunt for Linux distros, How else can I get them? I have seen many schools take away students internet because of illegal file sharing. Many college’s have even taken legal action against these students. I think that they should do this because students need to learn that stealing other artist music is illegal. My brother actually got his internet shut down at college because of this, he couldnt search the internet for two hours. He still continues to do it and tell him to stop.
I know one band that does not care about you stealing there music because they want there music to be heard. They also make a lot of money so they don’t care. They figure it’s a lot easier for people to get it and to listen to it. There music is pretty cool in my opinion. But I think the fact that colleges are letting it happen is bad. Colleges are going to have to pay for this since it is there Internet address. Which is why congress is cracking down on universities and telling colleges to start enforcing the rules. If they don’t the college are going to be getting into trouble.
I think what they should do is have the students sign a form saying they wont steal music, and if they do they most pay the school. If they don’t pay the school the school should take away there internet if they don’t pay and not give it back to them until they pay. That to me sounds like a good deal, but maybe I am just too mean. There needs to be some sort of action taken for this illegal behavior. Students need to learn from right and wrong. I also think that if someone breaks these rule numerous times they should be put on suspension. Is that to harsh of a price to pay.
If you want to use Torrents site for legal downloads then that’s a different story. If you want to download a copy of let’s say…..Ubuntu then maybe you can tell the college first so they know it’s for a good reason. But I still believe that the student should pay the college for the use of Torrent sites. Copies of Linux can be downloaded thought torrent clients such Utorrent. You can also download them to the site, but not all of them.
My only problem with these program such Limewire or Bearshare is that yes they are legal, but the content you download is illegal. Most of songs or movies on Limewire can also contain viruses and spyware and you may not even know it. ” I can just run a virus scan after I download it” you say. Yes you can but a lot of these viruses are hidden with the song so you may not be able to catch them, It may not be a virus it might even be some piece of software that can destroy your computer, such as a worm or a Trojan.
Filesharing can actually end up getting you in trouble in the long run. My advice to you, If you really want to get a song buy the whole album and then rip it to your computer. But if your using torrents for legal purpose for Linux then your okay. The government should be okay with the legal downloads of Linux. You just never know when the RIAA will come after you. The RIAA controls the music industry so they the power to take away your fun and sen you to jail. Do you want to go to jail because of illegal music?
