Is it just me or is secuROM spreading…
for those who are unaware what secuROM actually is, here’s a bit more info. All you really need to know to understand this article is that secuROM is a unholy abomination to PC gamers that limits your number of installs and installs rootkits onto your system. I for one have had enough.
Recently there have been many games that have made me think ‘Oooohh, I want to buy that one. Not bad for £30′, how ever thanks to Sony’s DRM I have been put off of buying them. It’s not just me either, there are many who have been put off buying games because of SecuROM. Here’s some proof…

So as you can see from these links, people don’t like secuROM, I can’t blame them. Thanks to things like SecuROM PC games are becoming little more than a very expensive rental.
It truely angers me that game makers trust their users so little that they would implement this sort of restrictive software. The strange thing is that manufacturers add this software to their games to stop games being pirated, does this stop pirating. Let’s just say that the day after spore was released in the UK, a single google search produced numerous results which would get Spore working without the need for Activating and even any activations to be used, or at least that’s what they claimed.
There’s one even worse thing coming from this, consoles don’t have to install games, with a few exceptions, they can most of the time just run them straight from the disk. So PC gamers have to buy, install and only have limited activations, but console players can run the disk on as many consoles as they want as often as they want with no consequences… that’s just wrong.
After all this, I just want to say something to EA games. You have displeased an aweful lot of people by putting secuROM in your software, you’ve made people feel like criminals from buying their own copy of the game then having to beg you for more activations, you have infact put hundreds of gamers from buying games because of this. So I say this to you, it’s this sort of think that is killing PC gaming.
