Dog vomiting is something that all dog owners will encounter from time to time. But is vomiting in dogs a serious problem or just something dogs do every now and then?

The truth is a bit of both. When your dog is vomiting it is always worth investigating and is potentially serious, but sometimes it will simply pass withing a day or two.

A trip to your local Vet will be necessary if the vomiting persists or you consider the vomiting to be particularly violent or worrisome - it’s always better to be safe then sorry.

Even though my passion is dogs and I love having them around and also documenting their lives, I have a new passion.

Over the past few years I have become heavily involved in the online world. Strangely this shift in my work life grew from my love of dogs.

Shih-Tzus are great little dogs.

I didn’t realize how much personality and spunk this little breed possessed until I met my mum’s Shih-Tzu puppy. Macy, as she became to be known is a feisty little pocket rocket. I’m not sure if all Shih Tzus are like Macy but I think they may be.

If you are considering adding a Shih-Tzu puppy to your family be prepared for a very energetic, somewhat highly strung bundle of joy. On the flip side they are very affectionate and love to be with their owners at all times. As far as training goes, the Shih-Tzu proves to be a very capable student.

Puppies provide us dog owners with much joy, affection and entertainment. They also provide their share of headaches - especially during the puppy house training period.

It’s a sad fact that house training issues result in numerous puppies being dumped by their owners each and every week. The sad part of this is that puppy house training doesn’t need to be a problem at all. With a good puppy housebreaking schedule and some commitment on your behalf you can have your puppy fully house trained in just a few short weeks - and with a minimum amount of stress.

The key to successfully house training your young puppy is supervision, confinement and absolute consistency in the message you deliver to your dog. Make it crystal clear to him/her where it is ok to go to the toilet and also where it is not. Dogs are great.

We all love dogs here but lets be honest, they are not always the little angels we had hoped for.

For the most part having a dog around the house is a wonderful joy for the entire family. Dogs provide heaps of fun, affection, companionship and security but there are some drawbacks…

The main reason we have so many beautiful dogs rotting away in the local animal shelters are because the dogs former owner has failed to deal with some type of behavior problem. Dogs are abandoned at a disgraceful rate because they either bark too much, chew things they shouldn’t or like to dig in inappropriate places and so on…

The even sadder truth is that many of these so called “behavior problems” can be easily treated with some dog behavior training.

If you are prepared to bring a dog into your life I believe you owe it to that dog to help him/her fit into our domesticated world. Some proper dog behavior training will put your dog on the right path to a happy and successful life.

Charging the clicker is a foundation skill which must be taught before you begin to train your dog. You need to add a meaning or value to the clicker so that it is relevant and motivating to your dog. This is achieved by pairing it with an object that has intrinsic value to your dog - tasty treats.

So when charging the clicker you are actually building an association in your dog’s mind between two unrelated objects - the clicker and the tasty treats. When the clicker is charged it takes on a similar meaning to your dog as the treats. Your dog will respond or react in a very similar fashion.

One of the many decisions we must make as dog owners is whether or not to insure our dogs. It’s a tough decision which is made harder by the fact that we don’t even like to consider the possibility of our precious dogs getting injured or sick.

When weighing up whether or not to insure my two dogs I came to the conclusion that the small monthly fee is worth it. I am comfortable that should anything happen to my dogs, they will receive the very best care and as a bonus I won’t have to be concerned about any huge veterinary bills.
