About
Who Am I?
As of 2008 I am an IT veteran of 24yrs standing in the industry. I am a tech head through and through and no matter how much my bosses push I am not moving into management. I started as a delivery / install engineer (grand title) when the original IBM PC hit the shores of the UK. My pseudo claim to fame is not that I installed the first ever Personal Computer in the UL but that I was very close to doing so.
However, my knowledge has never been purely PC based but also covers Apples, home computers (Amiga’s, Spectrums, etc) along with unix boxes and server technology. In the early days I may not have understood the software but I knew the hardware inside out and that was the only requirement. Since then I have had to diversify and from my early role I quickly moved into the engineering side and in later years into server and network design and setup. Now … well now I am sort of sitting on my laurels helping a team of folks to manage multiple networks worldwide and enjoying just being.
I love computing, gadgets, and all things technical from cars to planes to whatever and I also have an abiding interest in computer security. My first computer cost me £5,000 and when I could afford it, my first hard drive set me back another £1,000 for a whomping 300Mb. Yes that’s right, three hundred megabytes.
Why this blog - to help share my discoveries, my knowledge and if possible help others.
