Free Wi-Fi Network Security Scan

Let me ask you some questions:
- Are you a user of Wi-Fi at home (or even the office)?
- Do you mind using IE, at least this once?
- Happy to have a 3rd party ActiveX control installed?
Then pop on over to Pure Networks and make use of their free wireless network security scan - make sure you ignore any prompts tempting you to download their full product - though it will give you 7 full days to test that as well - and this site and scan will give you a scorecard of any issues found including whether you have changed the routers default password.
Give it a go and see what score you get then let me know with a comment here.

I tried their free scan, and got a score of 86. There were only a few items they degraded my score for, all of which were of my choosing (such as having automatic updates set to notify rather than run automatically). I don’t know that I agree with their opinion of my file and printer sharing. According to their scan, it is not set up properly. I am no network guru, but having had a home network set up for over 13 years, you have to deal with basics like file and printer sharing for the network to have much value to you. Mine works fine. It also didn’t recognize my router which is a very popular Netgear model about 5 years old. Overall, the scan told me mostly what I already knew, but it did serve to confirm my choices in settings. Make no mistake, they are pushing their products in several of their suggestions, but as a free scan, I am not surprised nor do I condemn them for it.

Glenn - I had the same issue with my router. OK so it was an older DLink model which I have just this week replaced with a brand new Buffalo box - but the scan didn’t recognise either of them.

Wayne - not sure you’re in the right place and it’s a shame you didn’t use your real eMail address as I’d like to have followed this comment up.
Anyway - no moderation here, I just keep the spam out! Did you have something to add to the subject at hand?
