Customer Service Excellence

I’ve been known for bashing companies that exhibit poor customer service, but I also make sure I praise those that go above and beyond the call of duty, even in simple things. Recently I’ve had cause to have a chat with two customer service departments - I can’t say complaint because at the time I [...]

WPA Wi-Fi Cracked!

Sensationalist?
Maybe. But Network World are carrying the story about an upcoming practical demonstration taking place this week at the annual PacSec conference in Japan.
So what’s the advice? Move your wi-fi to WPA2 which is not (yet I guess) susceptible to the same attack vector as WPA inow is.

Google Chrome - I’m not a fan

Here’s a little list which will probably grow - and yes I have to precede this list with the warning that the software is still only in beta - of things that bug me about Chrome. However, knowing how much Firefox has taken off surely Google would have at least thought to come close to [...]

Quiet

As in quiet in two ways ….
I’ve been awol for a while from this blog and I apologise but there are things afoot in my life that sometimes one just can;t control. Along with being super busy with my family and work these things have all conspired to  keep me away. Anyway, things have gone [...]

For the last three years Bruce Schneier has run a movie [...]

Video Games = Violent Kids… Not!

Just finished watching a very interesting video clip over at kotaku.com. Link to it is here.
The basic premise is that contrary to popular opinion video games do not increase the risk of your child becoming violent or going on one of the well publicised real life responses. In fact, the research actually points to the children [...]

WPA Security Tips

Wireless networking might not rank up there with flying cars, but it’s still plenty cool and very useful. (Plus, it actually exists.) But wireless data can be exposed to interception, and although we have encryption protocols intended to prevent security breaches, they are not always 100% effective.
Read he rest of this excellent article over at:

Free Wi-Fi Network Security Scan

Let me ask you some questions:

Are you a user of Wi-Fi at home (or even the office)?
Do you mind using IE, at least this once?
Happy to have a 3rd party ActiveX control installed?

Then pop on over to Pure Networks and make use of their free wireless network security scan - make sure you ignore any [...]

This Post Brought to You by the Letters F, Ph, and V

I’m sure we all know what fishing means.
But how many have heard of the word “phishing” which is pronounced exactly the same but means an entirely different thing?
Now, the latest in a line of ‘ishing’ words is “vishing” or VoIP Phishing. With VoIP being “Voice Over IP” for those unfamiliar even with this term. Note, [...]
