I’ve been quiet for a while - not because I have nothing to say but because life is busy. However, I feel that this deserves a mention to the point where it’s dragged me out of hiding.
So why won’t £50 Million UK go into 4, or more accurately why won’t 4 go into £50 Million? Well simply put we are in the countdown to a vote to see which one of 4 worthy ‘projects’ will get £50 Million of lottery funding. The other 3 will get nothing, which may be harsh but I didn’t make the rules.
The four projects are :
- Sustran’s Connect2 -
- Eden Project’s The Edge -
- Sherwood’s The Living Legend and
- Black Country’s Urban Park
All above links take you direct to the individual project pages hosted within The Peoples 50 Million Giveaway site but I want to tip my hat towards Sustrans effort.
As a keen cyclist - whom doesn’t get out as much as I’d like - I’ve long been a keen supporter of safer and greener transport to / from anywhere and one of Sustrans early statements was to build a cycle and walk way that would allow you to pass within a mile of any major city or town in the UK. They’ve not got there yet but are well on the way (local cycle and walkways are proof of their efforts) and this money would assist them immeasurably.
I’m also a parent and anything that makes it easier for my children to get out and about on their bikes safely is right up my street. Finally, this is the only project of the 4 that will have an impact on everyone in the UK - although I guess one could argue in favour of The Edge as being relevant to all but I still prefer Sustrans efforts as theirs will be a visible effect.
Still you decide and you place your vote - but please, do place a vote.
Voting starts November 26th and helpfully Connect2 (Sustrans) have put in place a “remind me to vote” - simply provide your name and email address and they’ll send you a reminder. I guess the others will have done similar things but I haven’t checked.
