Stop Having Children

Overpopulation has been argued by many to not be an issue. Most often it is religious Conservatives who make this claim. This quote from the Christian Bible, is often used as an excuse to overpopulate:

“Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

According to one Christian:

For example, Christians should not join environmentalist campaigns to reduce “overpopulation” because Christians know that the concept makes no Biblical sense, and contradicts God’s express command to fill the earth. Unless the earth cannot physically sustain any more human life, it is not overpopulated, since God created the earth to sustain mankind and delights in human life. “

This kind of thinking is in part what is causing the current world population problem. I think one of the most common motivations though for populating without thought for the environment, or the future children being created, is due to mere human instinct. Humans are compelled to get married, settle down, and raise a family…this is their genetic imperative.

Nature almost always has methods for dealing with overpopulation. For example, in Arizona, birds breed all year long, due to the good weather. It is common to find dead baby birds at the base of trees, as the birds throw the young fledglings out, if they are unable to sustain them.

There are predators to keep populations down, but unfortunately, humans have no natural predator, other than other humans. In the case of human predators, they get locked away, and are prevented from controlling populations.

Abortion is condemned by most religious groups, or even the use of birth control. The female is considered to be nothing more than a breeding machine, and not given the option of controlling her own reproductive functioning. Not only does this cause overpopulation problems, but a host of other issues.

A vast amount of children out there are being raised by parents who do not even want them, because they could not afford an abortion. There are far more children needing foster care or adoption, than there are people wanting to take them in.

Pregnancy takes a lot out of a woman, and those who are breeding large amounts of children, quite often end up in poor health. As their health declines, so does the genetic health of the future offspring. Weak people produce weak children.

Lack of birth control or education is another issue. Our government will not fund abortions, but they will support families on welfare. Abortions are most often under $500, but the cost of raising children is far more expensive. Some people will argue here, saying that human life does not have a price, but the price is one we will all pay, if overpopulation continues.

It is amazing to me, that there are still those out there in our reality who refuse to see the effects of overpopulation. Due to ideologies that have no basis or logic to them, they continue to destroy the earth, for the sake of what they can have, after they die! Can you imagine?

In Revelation of the Christian Bible, there is a full blown account of what will happen due to overpopulation, but the Christians seem to think these ‘prophecies’ are merely proof that their god is all knowing and wise. If you tell people to go out and populate without regard for population density and the consumption of resources, you are going to end up with a host of issues, all of which are described in revelations. It seems that whoever this ‘deity’ is, their goal was the destruction of the species.

Famine, plague, destruction of the oceans, pestilence, disease, etc., can all be attributed to the effects of overpopulation, and yet there are many who still claim it has nothing to do with it. Are these people blind?

Another thing that amazes me, is that people are bringing children into this world, without regard for the suffering, they will bring to these children. I think most people do not grasp the current world climate, in which we are quickly approaching a variety of disasters. Already the world weather conditions have been worsening, and a quick scan of such sites as this, will give you a clue as to how bad things really are.

Predictions for catastrophic world weather were being predicted for fifty years down the line, but now many believe, it will be within this decade. Many countries are already dealing with migration issues, due to the displacement of those suffering from world weather problems.

Here are the population statistics for the last 200 years:

  • 1804- 1 billion
  • 1927- 2 billion
  • 1960- 3 billion
  • 1974- 4 billion
  • 1987- 5 billion
  • 1999- 6 billion

Can this trend continue, and support a world that is already dealing with starvation, lack of water, environmental collapse, war, disease, density issues, and the ongoing annihilation of cultures and various species?

Right now at 5:53 PM: PT, on Monday September 24th, the population is 6,677,782,353. Go over to this site, and see how much the population has increased, since I have written this article. We cannot afford to continue denying this issue, and the only solution, is to stop having children!

Teach the children you already have, to not procreate, and let others in your life know, you do not support the creation of more children. We do not need to worry that there will be no one to repopulate, there will be plenty who will continue doing so, despite our current situation. The idea that we can keep the population under control by limiting ourselves to only two children per household, is no longer a valid solution. We must cease creating more people, for our own futures, and for those children who do come into this world.

Not all Chrisitians are like what you speak of. I stopped at 2. I really was impressed to only have 2 children well before I was able to do anything about it. It only took a couple of pages of the National Geographic articles about overpopulation on the first Earth Day to get the point across. [I am a quick study]

Actually, the only Christians I know that are trying to singlehandedly repopulate the earth are the Catholics. The Mormons are really bad about it, but I don’t consider them Christian by strict definition. Those people will have kids to the detriment of the rest of the family, which I have always thought was extremely stupid. I know of one woman who was literally told that her uterus might not make it through another pregnancy after 12 children - but sure enough she had another - immediately followed by emergency hysterectomy. Strange and stupid.

I always try to take the pragmatic view - how much quality time can be spent with each child when you are working all the time to survive? Even given the very wealthy, and no time limits from work schedule, again - how much time is available when the waking time must be divided between 10-15 children? From their standpoint - how well are you going to indoctrinate the next generation with so little time not devoted to survival?

I am glad to hear there are more Christians waking up. I did notice in my research, that there were quite a number of Christians singing a different tune.
That is exactly how I feel about raising children, each needs time dedicated to them. Because I only had two to take care of, I was able to really focus on their education. As a Mormon child, I swore I would have a 100 children. In a way though it came true, as I tend to be a mom to other people’s kids, and the people in my life. It’s either programming or genetics, but I am finally learning how to break out of it.

When you spend all of your time taking care of other people, you no longer focus on yourself. If you are not focusing on your own growth and evolution, then you are not moving forward. It is an excellent way to keep people enslaved to ignorance.

We exist to breed, and survive; we move no further ahead, regardless of the advances that exist in technology.
It is ludicrous to think we exist in this rut of a reality, to serve some godlike dollar, that goes into the puppet master’s pocket. Yes, there is a god, and he is the one pulling the freakin’ strings. The god though, it is in the people, like an infectious diseases, and it calls out in gluttony and incomprehension, and cannot be appeased. It seeks to understand it’s purpose, and clings to whatever will provide it.

So divided is the hearts of men because of religion, government, and self imposed ways of living, though they belong not to us in truth. These ruling beasts make fools of men, and make them believe they are at their greatest in evolution, and yet they plummet blindly into empty servitude that has no place in truth and life.

It is a tragedy, and it is a great sadness, that people persecute those who seek to save their own lives, and that of their species. They call us evil and twisted…saying we pledge servitude to the dark lord of their beliefs. Yet we do not mean ill intent, we merely seek to live.

Why some would give permission for our enslavement to others, in the name of law and religion, is but a blasphemy against our own species. We are people first, and people foremost, not the pawns or play toys of greater beings with predatory designs. If that be the truth of our existence, then there is nothing less but suicide, for a reality so bleak as one without pleasure and physical intimacy. I do not want to be a part of a plan that should make us into mental creatures without desire or pleasure….such a thing can only be a tool to it’s master.

It is our passion and desire that make us individuals, it gives us purpose and a feeling of being unique. If we all are to become nothing but mind, we shall become no more than thoughts, that drift on the wind. I choose life, even if it is hard. This place has so much potential. Heaven may speak of joy, but there is no joy without the understanding of it’s opposite. To know pleasure, we must know pain, and to know joy we must know sorrow. Complete perfection is death.

Sometimes I get a little carried away, but I suppose I wouldn’t be me, if it didn’t happen. Thanks for the comments Marc, you’re a real gem. I am very happy that people really do seem to be waking up, I am quite excited to see what happens next. Very interesting picture going on out there in reality….very interesting. :-)

Go right ahead and stop having children. If this were to occur with every human on the face of the planet the Human race would cease to exisist within 100 years.

William,
As I stated:
“We do not need to worry that there will be no one to repopulate, there will be plenty who will continue doing so, despite our current situation.”
Enough said.

Hi there,

It was really cool to read an article from someone who shares the same viewpoints that I hold. Due to the very things that you point out, I got sterilized last year, before having ANY children. I firmly believe that bringing unsuspecting, innocent children into a world like THIS, is child abuse.

I could not give the year 2050 to my children, not the way it’s going to be then. It hurts to know that other people CAN, or that they deny reality so that they can have their own “slice of the pie” at their progeny’s expense. Aren’t parents supposed to LOVE their children? I love my hypothetical children enough to spare them the burden of existence in a world such as this.

Also: I don’t like kids anyway. It kinda works out.

You might be interested in VHEMT, the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement. It’s a bit more extreme (and some members don’t want full extinction per se) but could be interesting for you. http://www.vhemt.org

I’m going to add your blog to my RSS feed. :)

This is the most obviously unresearched and poorly-constructed blog entry perhaps in the short history of blogging. Congrats. You should be proud.

And other places if you put forth a tiny amount of effort to find this and research.

Quote: Yet a closer look at demographic trends shows that the rate of world population growth has fallen by more than 40 percent since the late 1960s. And forecasts by the UN and other organizations show that, even in the absence of major wars or pandemics, the number of human beings on the planet could well start to decline within the lifetime of today’s children.

Wonderful LaliaTK! I always enjoy hearing about people who are taking real action. I have actually heard of the VHEMT, interesting concept. Yes, a bit too extreme for me. Thank you for your comments!

Steve,
Yes, decline is ‘predicted’, but at the rate resources are being consumed, we would have to have a major die off, to save our butts. Are we to listen to predictions, or take action while we can? I appreciate your forthright words, every comment is appreciated.

If some of us stop having children and only people in denial reproduce, we’ll be culling the rational from the gene pool.

I have contemplated that, but something must be done, regardless. I am sure there will still be intelligent people giving birth, but, the majority of us still need to refrain. What is better, less intelligent people being produced, or everyone suffering from too much of a population load? It is an enigma, but I have to choose general survival over intelligent survival first. We can figure out solutions to these issues, but we need to work toward lightening the load first.

Wow, that was a really biased article. Blaming all overpopulation of Christians? What countries are the worst for producing the most amount of people? Are they the Christian countries? No? Then why are you targeting this article at Christians. Why not target this at all religions based on Judaism, Christianity, or Islam? From what I seem to remember, the vast majority of people who have lots of kids tend more often than not to not be Christians.

From what I remember, the vast majority of the Western civilized world is trending, on average, downward in the number of children they have. The people you really need to take this message to aren’t reading your blog. But, hey, by all means spare us any little ones who think as little of life as you appear to in your comments. Abortion on demand? Why not? Why not allow post-birth “abortions” while we’re at it? After all, if it’s cruel to bring them into the world, isn’t it also cruel to keep them here once they’ve arrived? Where do you stop? Forced sterilizations? Termination of people who don’t have a certain “quality” of life? Who decides what that quality should be? People like Peter Sanger?

I have to admit that I’m glad to read that you’ll do your part in not breeding. Set the example now and don’t bring any new lives into the world.

First off, I did not blame Christians for being the greatest problem:

” I think one of the most common motivations though for populating without thought for the environment, or the future children being created,
is due to mere human instinct. Humans are compelled to get married, settle down, and raise a family…this is their genetic imperative.”

I also covered several other areas that cause overpopulation.

Secondly, I did say “Most often it is religious Conservatives who make this claim. ” This was referring to any religious conservative groups. I referred mainly to Christianity, due it being something I personally know about, and the fact that it has infiltrated the majority of the world, more so than other religious group.

I value life above all other things, that is why I wrote this article. I value the quality of life, not the quantity of people brought into it. In nature, animals suffer when overpopulation occurs. Illness, disease, and starvation are the results, and it is the same for people. I would much rather have those who do exist, live a healthy and happy life, rather than a lot of people existing, who have a poor quality of life. It is cruel to bring people consciously into a life of suffering. Christianity however states that suffering is something we should do, so you just can’t argue reasonably with a lot of Christians on this point.

“For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake ” (Phil1:29).

Yes, I am opinionated, and I have a right to be. You may not mind suffering, but it is not something on my list of to-do’s.

By the way, I already have two children, I had them before realizing the greatness of the population issues. They are adults now, and they have no plans of furthering the population.

Lastly, did I say anything about enforcement? I appreciate your writing though, as it gives everyone a chance to see various opinions on the subject.

“What is better, less intelligent people being produced, or everyone suffering from too much of a population load? ”

Margaret Sanger (Adolph Hitler, Pol Pot, etc) would be proud of you. Who are you to say that someone you consider less intelligent should not be allowed to produce? What makes YOU more valuable than someone else? Or your progeny for that matter?

Simple mathmatics shows that we don’t have an overpopulation problem. What we have is a distribution of resources problem. In the countries where there is large amounts of famine and disease, it is often because of brutal regimes that do not allow food and medicine into their countries or there are factious groups that steal the food from the citizens and force them to go without. This is well documented and not new knowledge.

I read an article recently (and I can’t seem to find it at the moment) where the author showed that everyone in the world (all 6 billion of us) could fit within one county within Rhode Island. Granted, we’d only have a two foot square to fit in, but if we can all fit in Rhode Island - there is obviously not an overpopulation problem.

As for abortion and contraception being condemened by Christians - I would think as a women especially, you would be happy to know that there was someone on your side who did not look at you as a piece of meat. The Catholic Church being one of the biggest proponents of contraception and abortion has always stated that we are to remain chaste until marriage and that the sexual union is intended as an expression of love between a husband and wife.

If there are reasons for holding off on having children, there is a fantastic and practically foolproof (the US Government studies show that it is 99.9% effective if done properly) way to avoid having children. It involves no chemicals or other products and relies solely on observing a womans body cycles. It is called NFP  http://www.ccli.org/). It is not only good for preventing pregnancies - but it is also a wonderful way of helping you to get pregnant.

I would suggest that you look into WHY abortion and contraception are condemned before just critizing it. Here is a link with some information - there is definitely plenty out there. :) http://ccli.org/nfp/morality/churchteaching.php

The benefit of using NFP too is that there is no risk of breast cancer (the Pill and abortion), strokes or blood clots (the Pill), severe depression (abortion) and worst of all death (abortion).

You People should sign up for the breeding regime, only 1 child per 20 couples. It’s actually a good idea and only people who don’t know any better will disagree.
