The Music Genome Project…A.K.A. Pandora

I stumbled across this website, and think it is a cool idea! It is based off the concept of music genre families, and creating stations based off of those individual groupings. For example I typed in Blue Oyster Cult, and now a new station called Blue Oyster Cult is formed. The music on the station will be a combination of the originating band’s music, and that of artists in the same genome.
There are quite a few user friendly features, that even include networking possibilities. You can bookmark favorite songs, artists, or other listeners. You can also alter the stations, adding to, or taking away from the current play list. Each song you can rate, as to whether you liked it or not. Of course, there is the option to purchase the music.
The basic membership is free, however, they do offer a premium service. For $36 a year, you can listen to your Pandora stations on select Sprint phones, or from a streaming music player from Sonos or Logitech. They also say your paid membership comes without ads, but I haven’t heard any as of yet with the free version.
Stop by and say hi to Pandora for me, I think you’ll like what she has to offer!

Excellent! I love BOC. I knew it the first time I heard Transmaniacon MC, back in college. Buck Dharma is possibly the best guitarist in that genre, and the ‘youngsters’ could learn a lot by listening. A quick listen to ‘Sinful Love’ or ‘Take Me Away (with Aldo Nova)’ shows why.

Yeah, they are pretty awesome. I have gone through several music fazes. The same time I really got into BOC, I also got into Dio, Triumph, Scorpions, Def Leopard, etc. BOC is one of the few older bands that still sound as good as they used to.
