Well, I attended the Hempfest today in Seattle. I really should remember not to attend events like this, as it brings home to me the truth of where I live. Now, don’t get me wrong, Seattle in some ways is paradise on earth in these times we are in. There is hardly any crime here, and people are very peaceable.
That is where it becomes an issue, they are too peaceable. Today at the Hempfest, it was just a repeat of my other Seattle experiences.
For example, a while back,I attended an all ages club in Seattle. I stood in a long line out on the street for over an hour, only to be eventually herded into this tiny little place like a sardine. Everyone there looked apathetic, and lifeless. This was for a live music event. There were children there as young as 9, looking lost and confused.
Today at the Hempfest, it was the usual zombie situation. Picture it is 4:20, and joints are being hurled by the hundreds into the crowd. A man yells out on the loud speaker stuff about freedom, while everyone rushes for the joints that have landed on the ground. People in the back are grumbling, as the joints didn’t make it that far back. Soon though the entire crowd is passing joints and pipes, and getting lit. Everyone is getting stoned.
A really cool danceable band started playing, and I started getting my dance groove on. I, and my daughter, were the only ones dancing. Later, one guy came over, and danced nearby, He lasted about 5 or 10 minutes. We were definitely drawing attention, and some people would not stop staring. Everyone just stood around, mostly silent.
It just really creeps me out…people are supposed to be animated! Amidst it all, I receive a phone call, it is my roommate on the phone. He tells me something, but the music is too loud for me to catch it. All I can hear is something about police and be careful. I hand the phone over to my daughter, and she is also at a loss to hear what is being said.
After awhile, we head out, back through the strange fenced channels we had gone through when we had arrived. The crowds were thick during much of the event, and at times we walked no faster than a couple miles per hour. How I wished I had worn a more comfortable pair of boots! We ended up losing the car, and my feet felt like they had been pummeled with assorted blunt instruments. I sat down on a curb, and told my companions I wasn’t moving. They went ahead, to look for the car.
I called my roommate, to see what he had been talking about. His friend had previously that day been to the Hempfest, and the police had given tickets out for smoking weed. Wow, people really do live in separate universes! The event I went to, our stuff was barely searched, if you could even call it a search, and the police did nothing but stand around.
After arriving home, we all began to talk about Seattle, and whether we really wanted to continue living here. The lack of sunshine here is just too much to deal with. It is no wonder we have the highest suicide rate here in the PNW. It is also the reason there are coffee houses on every other corner.
Oh! I almost forgot! For those of you who read my piece ShadowMyth’s Babblings: Good Sex, I saw someone! During the entirety of the event, I saw no one I really would have liked to be with. Then, on our way out, he walked past me. He was about my age, in excellent physical condition, and in his eyes were everything I needed to know. He never even saw me, and I just kept walking forward. My daughter said I should have run back, but what was I going to say?
I am beginning to think that maybe my inability to find a suitable mate, might be directly linked to my living here in Seattle. I am thinking about maybe moving back to Denver, or maybe Colorado Springs. It may be more wild out there, but at least people are more lively.
Well, I am off to do my qi gong, have a good evening everyone!
