The Suppression of Predatory Desires

  • No Related Post

Bipeds are mammals, and according to their physical features, we can see clearly that they are scientifically classified under predators. Predators have their eyes in front of their head, prey have their eyes on the side. Predators thus have a better advantage in hunting, as they can focus on their prey. On the other side of the fence, the prey have their eyes on the side of their head. This is so they have a wider visual scope, and can see predators coming. Mother Nature takes care of all of these little details, and makes sure everyone can protect themselves. This is a natural survival mechanism.

Predators have canines, so that they can rip and tear meat. Prey lack canines, as they need only molars to chew. Prey do not tend to be territorial, predators are. Bipeds do not have a creature greater than themselves to keep their numbers in check, indicating they are not prey to something else. Those who completely disregard science, say that we are beyond animal, that we are something greater. Perhaps, if these people realized the power available to them as what they are, they wouldn’t be so quick to live an illusion. We as predators have a kind of passion and zest, most prey do not possess. It is the protein that we consume, that makes our brains unique. Without these animal proteins, bipeds would have never evolved to where they are at currently. Vegetarians must also be classified under the category of predators, because they still consume dairy products, and are dependent upon animal sustenance to thrive. Any medical doctor will tell you, that veganism, is a dangerous and suicidal diet. We need animal protein.

What does it mean to be a predator?

pred·a·tor pred-uh-ter, -tawr]

–noun

1. Zoology. any organism that exists by preying upon other organisms.
2. a predatory person.

This explanation would indicate that all life is prey, as everything must feed upon something else to exist. However, knowing the logic of the human mind, we can conceive that this is referring to organisms that move about of their own volition. So, a predator is merely someone who kills to survive. The majority of Americans have never actually killed an animal, and probably never will in the foreseeable future. We are used to going to the grocery store, and getting our prey pre-killed and preprocessed. The very act of killing one’s own food, aids in satisfying base desires within the predator’s DNA. Predator’s have a natural tendency toward violence because of this base need for food, and the need to defend themselves. As bipeds in a modern civilization, far removed from our natural lifestyle, these natural urges are most often repressed. Many have settled, and satisfy their violent nature’s with passive actions. Examples include such things as electronic adventure games, spectator sports, violent movies and other such media. Only a small percentage of the population interacts in a predatory way that is socially acceptable, such as engaging in various sports, defense professions, various forms of dance, etc. In males, this is a much larger issue. Testosterone, which brings about aggression, is of course what makes men, men. This testosterone needs an outlet. In ancient times, when survival was still of importance, this was not an issue. People had plenty of outlets on a semi regular basis to channel their predatory energies. Whether it was hunting for food, defending their homes, or mock battles for practice, opportunities were there to give this energy a direction. In the excellent book duo, Ecotopia, solutions were found to channel this energy. Like some ancient tribes, modern men do battle with one another, much like unto the kind occurring within the renaissance communities today. The book portrays an alternative culture, where people live in harmony with one another, due to their ability to embrace their wild and predatory side.It greatly depends on which side of the country you live in, as to what degree positive societal violence is accepted. My daughter’s fiance Sam, recently moved out here to Seattle from the outskirts of the Chicago area. About six month’s ago he was working at a gas station, and witnessed a man assault his girlfriend, hitting her, and knocking her to the ground. Sam leaped over, and punched the guy right in the face. Witnesses called the police. The police spoke with the manager, the abusive guy was hauled off, and Sam was thanked by the officers. His manager made him employee of the month, bought him a bunch of steaks, and a six pack of beer. Would this have happened in California? Washington? Utah? Probably not. Sam was proactive, and responded to his predatory instincts to protect…should we penalize him for that? Will the guy he punched think twice before hitting his girlfriend again? There are reasons for these instincts, and suppressing them can result in stress and frustration, at our inability as predators to take control of our own environ and lives. Depending upon others to resolve altercations between each other, usually only results in dissatisfaction. Men need to feel like men, and women need to be able to defend themselves.

In part, our self esteem and pride is integral with our ability to take care of ourselves. In our current society, we are encouraged to run, and call for help. In the natural order of nature, running usually indicates you are prey. Unless you are being faced with extremely uneven odds, the most logical approach is to stand up to your attacker. First off, they will take you more seriously, and not see you as easy prey. Second, you will have asserted yourself, and you can feel confident that you are taking control in your life. The odds of getting hurt are much higher when you run in fear, than if you are to stand your ground, and defend yourself. It is well known that bully’s tend to only abuse the weak, to make themselves feel more superior. Quite often random attacks are due to a low self esteem, and the need to feel power over someone in lieu of feeling power over one’s own life. Drug addiction, another reason for random attacks, is also due to personal power issues. Addiction stems from a feeling of powerlessness within one’s life, and a need to feel an illusionary control.

There are many healthy ways to embrace our predatory natures, and affirm them, rather than denigrate them. We need only to look beyond the current social moors, and embrace a more connected lifestyle. A great deal of societal issues could be resolved, if our society supported our ability to defend and take care of ourselves.
