Life is Your Stage: Act Two

In Act One, we talked about taking control of your own stage. Part of taking control of it, is defining it more indepth. For example, let us say you dream of being a rock star. Come up with your personal image you want to project, and a name that you really feel would fit your role. Practice singing daily, preferably into a mike. Make the experience as real as possible. Let go into your role when you practice, and see clearly yourself on stage, experiencing your dream. Dress as often as possible in your daily life, in the costume of your dream. People tend to believe what they see. If you project that you are something, they will often create the way for you to become it. Believe in yourself as what you are becoming, and live the lifestyle you perceive is equated with this dream….be the dream in every way. As you do this, you will perhaps encounter some resistance from those around you, do not pay attention. Remember that people who live in very small boxes usually stay there, and it is much more fun to explore outside of the box. If people remark that you are odd for suddenly dressing differently, or doing unusual things, just reply with a casual comment. “Oh isn’t this outfit great? I love it!” or “I’ve always wanted to join the circus!”. Be sure to not act weird about them thinking you are being weird, act like everything is normal. This is very important. If you in any way let how they feel about your actions effect how you view your own situation…you will have undermined yourself. If you never act odd or unusual about what you do, eventually everyone will just come to accept it. Now, not only are you accepting your new reality, but so are others. Perhaps one of your friends happens to be at some club one night and runs into a talent scout. Now because he accepts you as the new you, he will probably be inclined to mention you to the talent scout. Connection always leads to connection, and the first one begins with you connecting with the self image you are creating for yourself. Though it is a creation, brought about by our desires and thoughts, be sure to let genuine enthusiasm be your guide. Be imaginative, and really enjoy yourself. Study up, and really know what you need to know. You will need to be able to talk the language of your trade, and walk what you say. If you pretend to be accomplished in an area you are not, you will most probably endure humiliation to the equal degree in which you have exaggerated. Be truthful, and always eager to learn. Never think asking questions makes you a fool. What makes a fool is someone who passes up needed information, especially out of ego. If you are honest about where your skill level is at, quite often people will offer to give you their personal advice. Advice is good, weigh it like all things should be weighed. Remember that the cast upon your stage is who you are dependent upon to make you who you are. Unless your dream is to be a hermit living in the Appalachian mountains, you need others. Treat them well, and always share with them in whatever ways that you can. As you go along, your stage will become more and more defined. Eventually, you will accomplish your dream to whatever degree you invest the energy. There are of course always going to be obstacles, but they are of course part of the plot line that makes your story interesting. Do we want to see a movie where everyone gets what they want without any effort or action? No, of course not! Your story needs spice and flavoring, and the resistances you meet along the way will give you the opportunity to show the metal you are really made of. Obstacles are what give you the potential to shine.
In the next segment, we will talk about props…
