Nudity and Dope Smoking…A Public Experience?

I was reading an article about a Norwegian protester, his group’s goals… “Their right to party, dance and be naked.” Normally this would not be too much of an issue, but he wants to insure his right to do so publicly. Quite a few places in the world still see public nudity as normal and natural. These same locations often have little or no sexual abuse, or rape. In America, we have extreme taboos against public nudity, and rampant problems with rape and sexual abuse. Something seems a little odd here doesn’t it?
Historically we know that the illegalization of drugs often increases drug use. So, what is going on here? The most obvious possibility would seem to indicate that suppression breeds rebellion. If I *can’t* have something, I will go out of my way to get it. So, why do we prohibit so many things that are not truly a threat? Could it be that those behind such laws are afraid of freedom, and what that might bring about? The vast amount of laws that govern our personal behavior in America, are dictated by Religious ideologies. For some reason these people feel that we must alter our behavioral habits so as to shelter them from any expression considered *animal* or *natural*. We are all according to these mythos, *born into sin*. Therefore the fact we are nude upon delivery, indicates we need to cover it up. Recreational drugs/alcohol are most often used for pleasure, but pleasure is a sin. God forbid we use our natural five senses to enjoy ourselves.
We are hard wired to enjoy our senses, and the experiences they offer us; denying them seems rather like a cruel joke. When we are told not to do something, or told to hide our *sinful* pleasures, our desires tend to come out in twisted ways. Many come to feel they are *bad*, and will never be able to redeem themselves. Lost in this delusion, they become the very image projected onto them. Such suppression born mental illness can lead to increased rape, drug abuse, and various other crimes. Statistically though, governmental agencies would know this, and obviously know they are causing the problems we battle in America every day. If we all were free and didn’t have all of these issues that have sprung from suppression…what would we really need our government for? These *problems* make many people feel vulnerable, and in fear of living without governmental control. Suppression also increases jobs for the government, law enforcement, prison systems, psychiatrists, lawyers, doctors, and the list goes on.
Years ago I read a sci-fi book that theorized that those behind these laws have hidden motivations. If teens were suppressed during their normal age of adulthood(14+), they would rebel and go crazy with drugs, sex, etc., and experience only the extremity of these things. Of course when we push drugs and sex to the extreme…the outcome is usually quite grim. So, these young people then realize *the wrongness of their ways*, and as they age, peacefully reintegrate back into the system of oppression. This really is the truth. In most countries and time periods, children became adults by 14-15 years of age. This is the natural rate dictated by their own biological clocks. Teen rebellion is nothing more than nature calling.
So, what would happen in America if we legalized things like nudity and smoking marijuana in public? Sheer chaos…that’s what. After being oppressed for as long as we have, these issues are ingrained in us on a genetic level. During the 20’s, people turned to marijuana in replacement of their prohibited alcohol. Marijuana with it’s loosening of inhibitions, made way for porn, sex clubs, and homosexuality to become far more widely acceptable. This was partly the propaganda that was used to illegalize weed. This was for the most part behind closed doors, and therefore did not get out of control. Or perhaps it did, and we just didn’t see it.
Change must occur slowly and over time, and people need to learn how to experience life and pleasure within a natural context. By this I am saying we need to help them not feel guilt/inadequacy over their bodies, or what they naturally are inclined to do with them. Substances for pleasure should be integrated into the lives of emerging teens, as many countries do already. The use of hard drugs becomes unnecessary when a person feels fulfilled, and feels they are not alienated by labels claiming their acts are evil/wrong. Separating the populace into classifications of good/evil, will always create internal conflict. Those who have created this conflict, are quite pleased, as almost no one is pointing the finger at them.
What do YOU think? What kind of *freedom* is *too free*? Is it possible for this war between opposing thought to end?

This is an awesome article! I completely agree with pretty much everything you have to say here. I don’t think that any freedom is TOO free I just think people would need to learn not to go overboard. If public nudity and drugs were just all of a sudden made legal this country would go completely nuts and I’m not sure if people would be able to handle it.

I love the eye graphic you have. Is that your eye?
This really is a great article. If you participate in blog carnivals, this one is a sure winner. As far as freedom, there still needs to be some type of structure to the things we allow in the US, because it’s the US, our country is just… weird. If suddenly weed was legal, it would be harder for kids to get than alcohol. We might actually see them getting harder drugs that aren’t portrayed as hard like ecstasy. I smoked weed medicinally after a spinal herniation (I have a degenerative disorder of the spine which makes me more prone to them.) and it is the only thing that worked. When I got better it was easier to stop than any other type of addictive substance I’ve ever had to take.
Getting more towards the point, some of this stuff would actually be hepful to society - at the same time legalizing things like nudity, drugs, all that, needs to be phased in if it’s going to work well for us.

Thank you Sasha and Ms. Wahala, for your comments! I have never heard of blog carnivals, but I will certainly plunking the term into Google. No, it isn’t my eye, I got it off of one of those stock photography places.

“I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.” - Thomas Jefferson
Nice article. Vote Ron Paul in 08 if you want to decentralize the powers that be. People should be free to move among states that more closely fit their lifestyle. States should be the testing sites for what works & what doesn’t, plain & simple. Case in point, the voters of 11 or 12 states now, have legalized medical marijuana. The federal government has stepped in and overridden the sovereignty of these states and the will of the people.
Restore the Constitution, restore the concept of individual liberty, restore freedom and peace.

Rob,
Decentralization is great, I completely concur. I am sure Ron Paul is a decent guy, but it doesn’t change my personal opinions regarding this governmental system. Presidents in this country are mere puppets to corporate interests, and if you don’t play the game, they assassinate you, ruin your reputation, or hold you hostage to their agenda. I haven’t voted for 20+ years, I don’t plan to.
Support the people…not the governmental system that has enslaved them.

“The Constitution is not neutral. It was designed to take the government off the backs of people.” - William Orville Douglas
The government can only enslave the people by ignoring the Constitution & rule of law. Ron Paul is a STATESMAN, not a politician. He abides by the Constitution and his 10 yr. record in Congress shows it.
Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record:
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Rob,
I watched the video footage as of your request. I think that Ron Paul has a lot of good ideas, and obviously he isn’t blind. I however do not agree with all of his ideas, and maintain my previous feelings. Please understand, I am a tough sell. I have spent more than half my life in the pursuit of finding the answers to making this world a better place.
Did you know that tribal peoples throughout the world work an average of three days a week? A society based of of a free market only seeks to perfect capitalism, and it isn’t necessary. It is possible with our current societal structure already in place to only have to work three days a week, own what ever you want within reason, have all of your food provided for you, your medical covered, free housing, and never have to worry about money. There is a way to decentralize government to the degree that the power is literally handed back to the people, and a way that warring factions can live the way they want to freely. Eventually I will be making these ideas available in the future dreamingtribe.com.
Thank you for your thoughts, I think in the long run we can all meet on common ground.

I completely agree with what your saying. I have never been raised to believe that there was anything wrong with sex or drugs. My parents smoked ‘weed’ since I was little and nudity was never a thing.
Now I am 21 and I think that because of that I lead allot better life. Everyone is always so tense and stressed how long has it honestly been since you got naked and didn’t feel or embarrassed about it?
Freedom is a great thing if only we had more of it. Keep up the good articles.

Thank you for your comments Shalina! I really agree with you. Kids who are raised around a relaxed environ regarding basic pleasure and enjoyment, are not going to tend to overdue it! I know my own childhood of suppression greatly affected my overdoing it when I was a teen. Because of this, I raised my children using an open minded approach, and neither one of them have drug issues.
Thanks for the support!
