Shane MacGowan Puts A Spell On You For Haiti

  • No Related Post

Shane MacGowan, my most favorite non-singing singer and one of our world’s literary treasures for penning songs like “Fairytale of New York,” “Sally MacLennane,” and dozens of other gems, covers Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell on You” (also once covered by Creedence Clearwater Revival) with some old friends to support relief for Haiti. Here’s a video of what they came up with:

From the Make the Shane MacGowan & Friends Haiti charity single number 1 Facebook page:

Moved by the plight of the people of Haiti, Shane and his girlfriend, Victoria Clarke, made calls to friends from which began the process of recording a track from which ALL proceeds go to Concern, a charity who have provided assistance to some of the poorest countries in the world including Haiti, even before the earthquake struck.

Some of the artists involved include Shane MacGowan (the Pogues), Nick Cave (Birthday Party, Bad Seeds), Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream), Mick Jones (the Clash), Johnny Depp, Glen Matlock (the Sex Pistols), Chrissie Hynde (the Pretenders), Carwyn Ellis, Rob Walbourne, James Walbourne, Cait O’Riordan, Paloma Faith, and Eliza Doolittle.

If you’re not in the United States but would like to order the single, there are numerous links at the Pogues’ fan site here, one of which should cover your nation of origin.
