Is Your Handwriting Horrible?

I have HORRIBLE handwriting!  When I was a teacher, the students thought that my writing on the chalkboard was Egyptian hieroglyphics!  I’ve never liked handwriting; I was always horrible at it, and I avoid it at all costs.

An article on Lifehacker discussed the topic of handwriting notes vs. typing notes.  A student that was mentioned still enjoyed taking notes by pen/paper; she felt that the act of writing helped to cement the lecture material in her mind better.  She did admit though, that typing notes helped her to be more organized, and the notes were much more legible.

I type as many notes as possible.  I probably type 100 times faster than I write (slight exaggeration) so it saves me a LOT of time to use digital media to complete my tasks.

Topic Questions: Is your handwriting horrible? Do you prefer handwriting or typing when taking notes, and why?  If you’re a teacher, which do you prefer to read from your students?

I think the difference between those that have good handwriting and those that don’t is caring. Many don’t. When I have taught, I would not accept anything I could not read. This was an immediate boost to the quality of the handwriting of anyone in my class. The handwriting may have gone to hell after the class, but during that time, it was at least legible.

My handwriting is very good, compared to most, but atrocious compared to that of my mother, who, at 78 can still amaze most people with her handwriting. It looks as though it was produced by machine, but with more flair.

I believe that handwriting is not totally needed today, but if you can’t write, or print ( I took industrial drawing in junior high, and developed quite a style) so that you are understood when you don’t have a keyboard and place for the typed letters to show up, you have a big problem.

That was the point I always tried to make with anyone, not only students.

Can’t even write anymore except in capital block lettering. Anymore than signing my name means almost crippling pain in my hand to where I can’t hold a writing instrument…so don’t even bother anymore. As for typing…can do that all day long without any problems.

My handwriting is awful. I much prefer typing anything and everything.

I am a 9th grader, and though I prefer typing (93wpm), I still like to write. I have been working on quality and getting the grip right (I’m left handed and was taught wrong) and am just now mastering the normal grip.

I can now write w/o cramps.
