Enough With the RSS Monetization Already

Monetization of RSS seemed to be one of the great buzz-words at the Syndicate conference, with publishers and marketers wondering just how they can monetize their RSS feeds.

As was to be expected, there’s really no consensus on just what might work best in terms of monetization, although RSS advertising is picking up genereous support in the industry.

But why this rush to monetize RSS?

Of course we all want to make money with it, but let’s not forget that RSS is just one tool in our marketing toolbox, just one piece of our marketing strategy puzzle.

Will you be making money off RSS through increased search engine rankings? Through new content delivery tactics? Through improved customer relationships? Through sales facilitation through your feed content?

Sorry, but RSS won’t be making you money (except of course if you’re selling RSS ad space) all by itself, your entire marketing strategy will.

But it’s up to you to figure out how to best use RSS within your marketing mix to support your strategy and business goals.
