Burning Door has released a report on the top 20 RSS readers using its FeedBurner system. Despite the ability to track what reader or aggregator is requesting a feed, there are quite a few issues that skew the results. For instance, many aggregators, such as Bloglines, Yahoo, and NewsGator Online, consume a feed on behalf of many users. Also, by default, some aggregators request a feed more often than others in a given period of time. All factors such as these must be taken into account when trying to determine market share among RSS readers. The article does a good job of explaining how the data was gathered and analyzed.
