If RSS is broken, why does PodCasting work?

Joshua Allen, at Better Living Through Software, has a post about PodCasting. Allen points out that while many have been saying “RSS is broken” and trying to fix it by designing new versions and new formats, there are ideas in RSS that have been around for a long time that actually work.
One of those ideas is enclosures, which is enabling the growth of PodCasting. Allen notes that Dave Winer needs to be given credit for enclosures. The mechanism for enclosures in RSS was designed by Dave, and was even supported first by Dave’s RSS reader Radio Userland. Dave was also the first to do PodCasting, though the actual software to move a show to an iPod was not around. Adam Curry, one of the pioneers in PodCasting and one of its biggest names, gives credit to Dave too.
On a side note, if you are still not sure what PodCasting is, Engadget has a great guide here.
