Most of us are aware of Newsgator for Microsoft Outlook. I just started using it recently myself and I can honestly say that it rocks beyond words. I found it to be rather uplifting not being tied down to a separate program to read my favorite news feeds.
So what about those without access to MS Outlook? Well there for a while, it was beginning to look like options for other email clients might remain non-existent. Then Chris introduced me to a service called Genecast. This service can be used with email clients such as Outlook Express, Netscape and even Mozilla. Now anybody with an email client that includes a newsgroup reader is good to go.
Is Genecast free? Well, yes and no. You can try out a limited demo that offers a few select feeds at no cost to you. If you decide that you really like it, you can subscribe to this service for $18 for 6 months. That equates to a measly $3 per month to have your favorite news feeds brought directly to your email client.
As a subscriber, you can add feeds from the website interface and configure the settings to suit your needs. Since your email client treats Genecast like a newsgroup, there is no software to install. The actual aggregation is done from the server, not your PC.
Try out the free demo by adding freenews.genecast.com to your preferred email client. You simply add it like you would a newsgroup and then synchronize it. The demo is very limited, but it will give you a general feel as to what the service will look like. Please remember that as a subscriber, you can alter how everything looks and feels. You should also check out Genecast’s FAQ page before getting started.
