Intel To Enter SSD Market

CNet has reported that Intel will be entering the SSD (Solid State Drive) Market later this year to try and take on the the three main players SanDisk, Samsung and Toshiba, Intel Does offer SSD’s but only in small capacity units up to 16GB in size. Intel will be releasing 80 GB and 160 Gb 1.8 and 2.5 inch SSD’s aimed at the laptop and portable market. The drives are expected to come with a SATA interface and Intel claims there will have significant performance gains over the currant SSD’s. Intel Claims these Drives will hit the market in the second quarter of this year. Intel also say they believe SSD prices will drop in the region of 40 - 50% per year, this may mean buy the end of next year we will see more and more SSD options for laptops.Â
