Do You Support Arizona’s Immigration Law? Vote At MSNBC

Posted by on Jun 7, 2010 | 22 Comments

This morning while surfing on the Internet I stumbled upon an MSNBC site that has been tallying votes on Arizona’s immigration law. On the site it states:

In July, Arizona will begin enforcing a new law that requires law enforcement officers to check someone’s immigration status if they have reason to suspect that he or she is in the country illegally. Do you think this is a good idea?

On the day I looked at the vote count it was roughly 95% Yes votes and 5% No votes.

What do you think? Is Arizona right or wrong and why?

Comments welcome.

You can vote on the MSNBC site here.

I vote yes. Make that HELL YES.

Before you make any comments, I *seriously* suggest you read the law (you can find it here: http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf).
Far too many are commenting on this law without reading it (including the US AG and the President). Please don’t make yourself look foolish by doing so.
Please understand that, unlike what the President said, no one will be asked for proof of legal residence when they are simply walking to get an ice cream cone.
Please understand that police officers who want to racially profile are already provided with the tools to do so.
Please understand that every legal alien is already required by federal law to carry the documents that show this.
Please understand that the Arizona law adds nothing new to Federal law, except the fact that the law will be enforced.
Please understand that the US AG (Holder) has announced that he will not enforce the law he was appointed to enforce, which clearly signals that his boss (Obama) doesn’t want to enforce Federal Immigration Laws.
Please understand that this law has nothing to do with racism, and instead is an attempt by Arizona to stem the tide of illegal aliens which costs the state million$ every year for unpaid Federal mandates (education, health care, and law enforcement among them). Arizona is the kidnapping capital of the US because of drug and human trafficking which revolves around the illegal immigration problem and the porous border.

    Thank you.

All it does is empower the state law enforcement folks to enforce a federal law… which I kind of thought they already had.

For example, it is illegal under federal law to carry a firearm into any federal building (LEOs excepted). Lets say I have a licensed handgun, and stop buy the Post Office to collect my mail. There happens to be a a county sheriff in there and he spots the gun as I open my coat to put my letters in the inner pocket, doesn’t he have the power to arrest me for carrying in a federal building? Or does he just ask to see my license & let me go?

Yes, I support Arizona’s efforts to enforce federal laws that the federal government refuses to enforce on a wide scale.

But you know where you REALLY don’t want to be an illegal immigrant? Mexico – just check THEIR laws on the subject!

it is about time somewhere in this nation our current immigration laws get enforced. SO HELL YES I SUPPORT ARIZONA’S SB 1070.

  • Pizzor2000

I voted Yes! I’m kinda surprised that there is such an overwhelming percentage of Yes votes on a poll conducted by MS’s Network of Barrack’s Cheerleaders!

  • David Clark

    Its a start.
What we really need is a comprehensive change to the way we view immigration. The 1890′s have come and gone. We don’t need these people watering down our culture. They don’t speak English, they don’t assimilate and often, they contribute security threats. I know Palestinans and others from Lebanon, and the Far East- and especially Mexico- who work or run businesses. The send millions out of the US. At home, they aren’t Americans. Many hate our culture and that rubs off on thier children who by a Constitutional twist and an American from thier first breath.
And get this; NOT A SINGLE country on this PLANET has borders and flabby immigration policies like the US.

All this uproar about a simple bill that declares that Arizona pledges to uphold the federal law already in place is just smoke and mirrors. The Administration gets to look like the hero of the downcast, and tries to paint the citizens of Arizona as evil, discriminating, bigoted segregationists. This sort of politics is disgusting to anyone with half a brain that wants to use it. Smoke and mirrors. This Administration is like a magician that uses misdirection to keep us from paying attention to what is happening behind his back.

    Ron,

What I find astonishing is that there is a link to your article on this on “Lockergnome” Chris Pirillo still thinks gun laws make us safer and “greenhouse gases” are causing “climate change”, as evidenced by other links on today’s e-mail.

And then there’s that “Oracle” character who spews his Liberal diatribe and won’t allow comments unless you “log in”.

I understand why many people come to this country illegally. Hell, if I had to feed my family and the work was in Mexico, I’d be fence-hopping the other way myself.

It’s the employers who hire these people who are the biggest criminals. They take advantage of the illegal status of these folks so they can pay them sub-standard wages with no benefits or job security. And all at the expense of US citizens and those here legally.

And what do you think will happen when “reform” is passed and these folks are legalized? All of a sudden they are going to expect more than they got when they were in fear of being deported. They will no longer be the “bargain” they once were to the unscrupulous employers. Unless the border is secured these newly-legalized folks will probably be given pink slips for a new crop of easily exploitable illegal labor!

      Hello Cliffystones,

‘I understand why many people come to this country illegally. Hell, if I had to feed my family and the work was in Mexico, I’d be fence-hopping the other way myself.’

Exactly. Until the border is totally secured, this problem will continue to exist.

We have an immigrant from Ireland in our family who had to spend a lot of money on an immigration attorney and is now an American citizen. I think this is a travesty of justice. I do not believe that if you don’t have the money you should be denied entrance into this country. My husband came to this country in 1957 and joined the army. He is a proud U.S. Citizen. It is unbelievable that these people come over here and refuse to speak ENGLISH. Let’s make them accountable. Send THEM to Afganistan and if they survive, they can be citizens.

I am a legal Mexican immigrant who is happy to show my papers to police or anyone else who wants to see them. Go ahead and profile me!! I want this country to be safe and I have nothing to hide. Everyone should have identification on them anyway…legal or not. There is no excuse for anyone being in the USA illegally. This country is treating illegals better than it is treating its legal citizens. This illegal invasion must stop along with the entitlement issues that come with it. The illegals are just playing the US system. And for those who think the northern border is an issue..the last time I checked, most Canadians are educated, have free healthcare, speak English, don’t have huge drug cartels and rarely use the welfare system. Lets call a spade a spade. Mexicans are the problem. Legal USA immigrants from Mexico would be happy to help build the fence. Lets do it! Americans built railways so the fence can certainly be built. It’s all about priorities.

if they want to be US citizens then let them do it legally and if they do not want to follow the legal process that has been in place before this administartion and the one before this administation, etc, etc. Let them as a 1st step to be a US citizen with all freedoms and rights then volunteer to join our military services, peace corps,or some other public service assocciation for a three year period. The freedoms we all have in our everydays lives we accomplished by people that ahve given not taken. Let them understand they must give to recieve.

I am a naturalized citizen, I had quite a difficult route to citisenship. But I fully and sincerely support Arizona Law enforsement to stop illigal immigration. These people come to this country and abuse the system, sending their kids to our public schools and using medical services by getting emergency medicaid, etc. and they do not have to pay taxes either. People who work here legally have to pay for them to get all benefits of living in this blessed country for nothing. I feel sorry for their kids, but why do we all have to pay for them? Not even to mention criminal aspect of the problem, obviously, it is horrendous. There is no any other country in the world, that would tolerate this kind of system abuse, as US. Of course, president of Mexico would like to keep his illegals here, as our money is being poured in mexican economy. And our Congress gives him a standing ovation! Such absurd is unheared of even in Orwell’s anti-utopias. It has nothing to do with profiling: who’s fault is it that majority of illegals in Arizona are from Mexico? Other states have same problem with people from China, Eastern Europe, Africa, etc. Naturally, not many Western Europeans would come here illegally and risk their freedom for a cheap unqualified job. But why are we supposed to feed everybody and subject our neighbourhoods to risk of unaccountable crime and violense. These people are welcome to come here legally as seasonal workers, etc, and pay taxes and get registered. This country still has the most favourable immigration system in the world, but for some to break the law is a much easier way to grab a piece of pie. It is just sad, how liberal demagogues brainwash certain populations with unfounded cries of racial profiling and discrimination when all that is being done is merely to protect our neighbourhoods and country. Illegal immigrants are criminals by virtue of being here ILLEGALLY!

  • acnj

    HELL YES
Ilegal imigrants have taken over the construction industry in NJ over the past 10 years, putting most legitamate contractors out of business. They dont pay insurance or tax and can underbid legal construction firms every time. These are not low paying jobs that they claim no American wants to do.they do not try to contribute to the communiy in any way ,they send their earnings right back to their countries tax free many of them have several properties in their country . we are left paying the bills for hospitals schools etc they go back and live well and laugh at the stupid americans. Ilegal imigrants cost NJ over 5 billion per year this would erase all our deficit and lower our real estate tax if the problem was corrected .

  • marie solis

I have no sympathy for illegal immigrants. why we need to support them when they hurt us all, they are breaking the law. my question is when the american citizens is going to support the Arizona law, enough is enough if you really care about you country do something support the republican gov.Jan Brewer. I am from Centro America I who came here legally. i don’t think it is discrimination when we catch those illegal . I support the Arizona Law 100%. Gracias.

I agree with the Arizona Immigration Law. When I worked in Canada I was required to carry my work visa with me at all times. I was told that I would be deported if found without them. I was asked for them on two occassions and did not hesitate to show them. Once at a local bar (an official heard me mention I was working at Nortel) and once at a medical clinic. I did not feel abused in any way. Of course I was working there legally.
Yet, I know there are many Canadians working here illegally. In fact there are people from all around the world. I am a retired field engineer. The company I worked for hired illegals from Canada, Mexico, China, India and England that I know of. The Chinaman and Englishman were caught when attempting to work on a top secret job at Livermore Lab in California. However, they weren’t deported. Talk about national security.
Not only do these worker deprive U. S. citizen of good high paying jobs, they are a drain on our economy. They have no health insurance yet we provide them with healthcare and when they retire they have their social security check mailed to them back in their homeland.
The American people are fed up.

  • RonLee

If the opponits of this bill had used thier protests in Mexico against the repressive government, there in Mexico. What would they have gained in changing the government in thier country, for jobs and living conditions.
Thier duty is to reform the government of Mexico, rather than trying to change the government here!!!!

  • Brittany

HECK NO!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS A RACIAL PROFILING LAW!!!! IT WON’T PASS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Valerie

ABSOLUTELY NOT! This law pushes us backwards instead of moving forward! Its 2010 we shouldnt have to deal with these kinds of issues. If an illegal individual is getting in trouble with the law then yes deport him, but for the other hard working Mexicans who are here for a better living they should be given the right to work towards eventually becoming legal citizens

I am all for what Arizona is doing, and the these Immigrants are fleeing to neighboring states like New Mexico, Texas, California for refuse: I want these other states to fall in line and back Arizona ALL THE WAY! Give AMERICA BACK TO REAL AMERICANS! Let the unemployed ranks gain employment by ousting these unwanted Immigrants..who have ruined American!

  • pandy

My husband is from Europe and it cost us approximately $4 k to get his green card plus jumping thru hoops and going thru lots of paperwork and questions and having to PAY for a work permit, this was the cost without using a lawyer. I think anyone against the az (and US) rules about coming in legally should have to pay, make those families who are doing ILLEGAL entry pay $4000 per person, hire translaters, jump thru hoops and then pay taxes for 4 years without going on welfare, go thru criminal checks all around and be on probation for 5 years like the ones who do it LEGALLY before even thinking of going against the AZ bill,,,,i am very happy I live in AZ since this is the first year that my kids aren’t shoved in a class that is way too big because they needed THEIR teacher to teach the ILLEGAL NON TAX PAYING families kids on my dollar.
