Climatic Changes Spell Disaster to Some, Hope to Others

The recent flooding in the Midwest will contribute to the pain that is being experienced throughout the world as energy and food prices soar. These floods alone have destroyed this year’s Iowa corn crop and several soy crops that the world is dependent on for their food supply. As a result any food item dependent on either soy or corn will once again increase in price possibly prompting food riots not just in third world countries but right here in the United States.

In watching what is happening all around us today it would be easy to feel depressed, stressed, anxious, or just downright fearful. However, if one has ever studied the Bible it is impossible to avoid the correlation between end time prophesies and what is happening today.

One such instance is the change in weather patterns that are being seen throughout the world. Some scientists are blaming all of the changes on global warming but I can’t help wonder how these changes have occurred so quickly. Usually change occurs over time and while the incidence of odd weather has increased over the years the dramatic changes that we are seeing today are unprecedented in their rapidity. If you question this fact you only have to look at the deadly increase in hurricanes and tornadoes that have struck the southern and mid sections of the U.S. To take it globally just look at the deadly Sumatra quake that struck in December of 2004, the tsunami that struck Indonesia or the cyclone that hit Miramar.

Changes to the earth, however, have not just been in regards to weather. Volcanic activity has also jumped to an unprecedented extent for modern times. This activity is taking place around the ring of fire and as a result it is setting off several previously inactive volcanoes. Since these eruptions put out more carbon dioxide emissions than our cars it is outside of our control to prevent the changes that are occurring not just only on earth but elsewhere in our solar system. These changes could easily be attributable to the birth pangs Jesus tells us will come along with the end times. In His prophesies Jesus told us that these extreme conditions would only increase in occurrence and severity. Scripture tells us in Revelation 6”12-17 that when the sixth seal is opened “there will be a great earthquake, and the sun will become black as sackcloth ……and the moon will become blood, and the stars of heaven will fell unto the earth.” It continues saying, “every mountain and island will be moved out of their place.” God tells us these things so that we can be ready for His return.

God will continue to try and awaken the world to His might and power by using weather catastrophes – even those resulting in death with the end in mind of unsettling the apathetic, to alter our current course of action, or just to instill the fear of God into our hearts and thus save our eternal souls.

God tells us these truths in I Samuel 12:17-18, II Samuel 22:15, Psalm 18: 12-14,  Psalm 83:15, and Jeremiah 5:24 to name just a few.

That would indicate to this writer that the end times spoken of in Revelation are definitely upon us. Included in these prophesies are the resulting food shortages that will occur setting up the way for a one world government that will allow the anti-Christ to come to power.

I hope that the conditions that you are facing in your own life lead you to believe in what God has prophesized will happen and that instead of fear and depression you can look forward to the return of Christ for His Church.

I have wondered if this is the start of the end times, but I tend to also look at the times in the past where people proclaimed that the end times were upon us.

I know from history that The Potato Famine in Ireland was claimed to have been the start, but then in the middle ages the bubonic plague was to have been the beginning of the end.

I can remember in Sunday school, long ago, I was studying this, and the teacher (also the pastor - a very learned man, who studied the texts in the original languages) stated the things predicted in Revelations would have to be closely packed together on the timeline, and that many times the end was near.

oops, technical difficulties

what I meant to finish with was that many times in the past there have been end times predictions based upon two or three closely spaced things, but not all of the signs together.

What Do You Think?
