Beware of Strangers - Flavored Meth - A Deadly New Kind of Candy

Remember in the 70s when pop wines first came into the market place to lure new drinkers in by sweetening their product for young users well now drug manufacturers have decided to try the same technique. The promise that lures many users of the old style meth in has been increased energy to help them get through long often stress-filled days. However, while users may indeed be energized at first we all know the sad tale of addiction that follows.
Previously, police officials believed that meth was the drug of hardcore drug users but now it appears that destroying thousands of lives isn’t enough so drug manufacturers have decided to open their own little candy stores filled with everything from chocolate to strawberry flavored varieties of the dangerous drug to lure in new, as well as, younger users. The belief is apparently that better packaging may entice those who would otherwise avoid this deadly drug.
The type of flavored meth that has garnered the widest attention to date is called strawberry meth or “strawberry quick” after a popular flavor-in for milk. Enforcement officials nationwide on the alert for information regarding this specific type of drug so that they can take pro-active measures to keep it out of the hands of young people who are the target of these dealers who are only interested in the dollars and cents involved in making new addicts.
However, while this is yet another frightening subject that parents must confront their children with it is nothing new. From LSD lollipops, to marijuana brownies, to chocolates laced with hallucinogenics, pushers have always done everything they can to sell their wares. However, because these drugs resemble foods kids crave, children are particularly susceptible. For parents his means being ever vigilant that your child doesn’t take any sort of ingestible food from strangers since no one knows what a drug pusher looks like. Another caution from officials is that meth is not relegated to any one sector of society which means that it doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor your child could be in danger from this new type of candy.

I have heard these very same warnings since I was a child, and the fact is, most of them are a myth. The whole thing about pushers trying to get kids on drugs; most dealers just do not want the trouble. Unless you live in a real serious ghetto, you have very little risk of being offered drugs. This propaganda has been around for a long time, but most dealers are concerned about getting busted. Little kids going home screwed up on drugs is going to get the kind of attention dealers do not need. How do I know? Because over 20 years ago I was a meth dealer, and I have known many dealers in my lifetime. Quite often children get drugs from their friends, who have either stolen them from their parents, or raided the medicine cabinet. Young dealers do exist, but they are getting drugs from an older sibling, friend, or relative. Children using drugs almost never starts with a stranger, but someone they know. I am in no way supporting the use of methamphetamines, but want to assure people this is not something they should stress over.

Dear ShadowMyth.
Thank you for your educated assessment of the situation. I am always glad for such input, as I like many, usually have a slanted perspective regarding the issues we discuss.
Have a good day.

agreeing along the lines with Shadowmyth,
these tales of the evil drug-pusher handing out lollies to unsuspecting children are completely bunk.
not just that drug dealers do not want to waste the time, or go through the hassle addicting children, but as hard as it is to believe, (i would say most, but given i do not know “most” of the drug dealers on earth, i will not state that) not all drug dealers are horrible monsters that wish to push ill fate upon young children as a means to stablize their own income.(or even against adults, drug supply exists because of demand-wich on another notes is why the “war on drugs” should instead be the “war on addiction”)
aside from that & most importantly (since this part relys purely on factual knowledge, not just opinion of the intentions of drug dealers):
when you hear of drugs being mixed up in foodstuffs such as brownies, suckers, & chocolates, this is not to attract young would-be users, or to fool children or anyone else into consuming them.
there are several reasons for someone procesing illegal substances in this manner.
TRANSPORTATION is a good example (i have seen powder cocaine smuggled through hollow lollipops)
The reasons i am most familiar with and feel i can confidently say are the predominant reasons for drugs being incorporated into food form, are for
EDIBILITY (people may dip dried hallucinogenic mushroom caps in chocolate or penut butter to make them a little more pleasant to ingest.)
substances such as liquid LSD need to be dropped upon a vehicle (usually paper) for individual dose distribution. sometimes the paper is substituted for other edible items such as sugar cubes, lollipops, or candies)
and
JUST PURE NOVELTY
marijuana lollipops, brownies, rice-crispie treats, and other desserts are produced solely for the entertainment of existing users, not to trick or entice anyone.(also would apply to any flavored meth-though i have not personally come into contact with and have no knowledge of if it does infact exist on anysort of widespread level)
although, it is easy to imagine a case where a young child could unknowingly ingest such products mistakingly left in reach,
it is the responsibility of any user to keep his/her goodies in any form away from and out of the reach of children, this applies as well to brownies, lollipops, etc.
if anything happens to a child from such a product its from the neglect of the person posessing those products, not their producers, and is comparable to a situation in wich a young child finds, and consumes alchohol or perscription medicine left within their reach - you would not blame the pharmecutical company, they manufacture those products for adults who are aware of what they are consuming.
