Cindy Sheehan, Voice Of The Anti-War Movement, Denounces America As A Fascist Wasteland

From Fort Worth, Texas, Cindy Sheehan who began the antiwar movement in August 2005, by camping outside Bush’s Crawford ranch for 26 days, has announced that she is “done being the public face of the movement.” In a letter posted on a liberal Web site Monday, Sheehan stated that her decision is the result of the hatred and smears that have been directed towards her and the Democratic Parties desertion of her after she made it clear that she expected them to live up to the same standards she was demanding from the Republicans. Sheehan then criticized “blind party loyalty” as a danger, no matter which side it involved, and said the current two-party system is “corrupt” and “rapidly descending into “… a fascist corporate wasteland.” In her letter, Sheehan stated: “Good-bye America… you are not the country that I love and I finally realized no matter how much I sacrifice, I can’t make you be that country unless you want it. It’s up to you now.” I hope that does not mean that Cindy is leaving the U.S. to live elsewhere.
Sadly, the mother of twenty-four year old Army Specialist Casey Sheehan, who died in Baghdad, sacrificed a 29-year marriage and endured threats to put all her energy into stopping the war only to find the movement “often put personal egos above peace and human life.” However, she said the most devastating conclusion she had reached “was that Casey did indeed die for nothing… killed by his own country which is beholden to and run by a war machine that even controls what we think… I guess no one paid attention to me,” she added, “when I said that the issue of peace and people dying for no reason is not a matter of right or left, but right and wrong.”
While many will sorely miss her outspoken voice, Kristinn Taylor, spokesperson for FreeRepublic.com, states that she believes dwindling crowds at Sheehan’s Crawford protests may have led to her decision. She further stated that “Sheehan’s politics hurt a lot of people, including the troops and their families, but most of us who support the war on terror understand she is hurt very deeply.”
Sheehan’s last comments on the matter included the following sad statement, “Casey died for a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while Democrats and Republicans play politics with human lives.” How sad that mothers across the country are paying the price of an unjust war with the lives of their children, while the President continues to enjoy his own daughters and his life in the safety of the country he is placing in jeopardy both economically and physically as blowback is something that would affect all of us.

This coming from the person who embraced Hugo Chavez, and her nonsense continued until her last day of grandstanding.

Ms Sheehan is mostly right. I don’t think fascist applies, but corporate wasteland certainly does. I do wonder why the mothers of these brave yound people don’t say something. I know my own sister buys into all of this rhetoric about fighting there, not here, so perhaps that is it.
How many more have to die before we [collectively] wake up?
I know that last Sunday’s 60 Minutes had people who were in Iraq, and had realized it was wrong to be there, there were also those who said nothing, but you could see in their eyes they were seething. I don’t know, nor would I try to express for them, their opinion; I do think it is sad that for whatever reason they were unable to voice it.
I know I’ve been slammed for being un-American, and to them, I say it is ‘My country, right or wrong’ but also I don’t think one has to be stupid, and never admit that we were wrong. I knew it from the start, others came to that knowledge later…it does not make us less patriotic or proud of what we do have here.
I feel like the parent, who is ashamed of his child’s poor performance, not because of inability to deal with that poor performance, but knowing full well the child is capable of so much better.

Dear Marc
Good to hear from you. I do not believe that it is unpatriotic to disagree with the powers that be. They are men with an agenda and they make calculated decisions based on their best interest. After all they might not get reelected or be able to count on a hefty retirement at the taxpayers expense without being able to convince the innocent among us that they are doing what is in our best interests.
I want our soldiers home. Home from Iraq, home from Japan, home from Germany, home from Italy, home from Afghanistan and anywhere else where we don’t need to be stationed. In the Middle East we are never gong to win and are just setting up our soldiers as sheep for the slaughter. in the other countries they are democracies that haven’t gone out of their way to back the US and they no longer need our assistance to protect them.
Oh well, enough blabbering. Have a wonderful evening. Jackie

Dear Scott
No one said that Cindy was perfect. She suffered much pain as the result of an unjust war and had the gumption to stand up to the powers that be. If more of us were brave enough to risk as much as she did we could solve many of the problems facing us today.
I am glad that we are all free to express our opinions. Have a good night. Jackie

Hi Jackie,
I guess you still see these late entries posted long after the thread appears to have lost its impetus, eh? Got here from a link not indicating this was one of yours but can’t say as I’m surprised that it is. Dunno how I missed seeing this one when it was first published. Does Lockergnome link to ALL of your offerings in the newsletter or is it necessary to visit your homepage to see them?
I read your last book review but didn’t have anything pertinent to say, then I tried to get Chris to forward my email address to you so I could ask again how you were doing via a more appropriate medium. (ShadowMyth says you guys already have ‘em.) For whatever reasons he didn’t seem to want to get involved.
I saw Cindy Sheehan interviewed by Amy Goodman for most of a Democracy Now! the other day and it seems she’s reentered the activism scene—even managing to get herself arrested, I see.
Interesting how some people are willing to vilify a person for embracing a highly popular, democratically elected president (or for bein’ one o’ them Berkeley professors, “folks”) when those same kinds of people tend NOT to view Donald Rumsfeld with contempt for shaking hands with the likes of a brutal tyrant like Saddam Hussein.
Furthermore, for anyone who’s paying attention there’s more DEMOCRACY going on in Venezuela these days than there is here in the United States. After a failed U.S. coup to depose Chavez in 2002 he was restored to power (after a mere one-day deposal) by the popular will of the people. On the other hand we REMAIN in Iraq despite the fact that over 70% of us want OUT of Iraq; and Nancy Pelosi has made it very clear that impeachment hearings for our own dubiously elected officials are “off the table” despite the most flagrant ethical, fiduciary, Constitutional, international and civil rights violations of any administration in U.S. history.
Chavez is a hero to his people for very good reasons. Bush is reviled by an increasing number of Americans for equally good reasons.

HI Steve
Yes, Lockergnome links to all of my articles. I don’t have your email address or I would contact you directly. For obvious reasons I am leary about posting my personal email address and am unsure how to get it to you through any other means. If you can figure that out I will provide for you.
I didn’t know that Cindy had reentered the political scene but am glad that she has. We don’t have much political activism in my area so other than ranting about the injustices of the Bush Administration on my blog there is little outlet.
I wonder if Bush and his cohorts really understand how dictatorial their actions are and how many of our freedoms that they are jeopardizing. One can only hope that Americans will stand up and let the GOP know how we feel in 2008 by electing a president who is truly willing to return power to the states, throw out the Patriot Act, Secure our borders, and most importantly bring the remainder of our troops home in one piece.
Have a good day Steve and let me know what you figure out about the email address thing. Jackie
