A Merry Heart by Wanda E. Brunstetter

Wanda E Brunstetter’s book A Merry Heart is, like her Brides of Lancaster County series, another masterpiece for those of us who enjoy realistic yet inspirational reading.

The plot centers around a young Amish woman, Miriam Stoltzfus (an old maid school teacher who is embittered by the betrayal of the man she loved), Amos Hilty (an Amish widower who is in love with her), and Nick McCormick (a non-Amish, newspaper reporter who uses her to get an inside look at the Amish faith).

This cast of characters intermingles in a heart-warming tangle of events that has you cheering for the underdog, Amos and his six-year-old daughter, Mary Ellen as he seeks to win Miriam’s love and hand in marriage.

In my opinion this is a uplifting book of rare quality that begs to be read by anyone who has ever had their heart broken by unrequited love. It definitely receives a thumbs up from this reader.
