Home Recording Part 3

A mixer would greatly help if you can get your hands on one. You can get a simple 4 channel mixer from Musicians Friend for around $45.00. But if you can stretch $135.00 out of your budget, then get a Line 6 TonePort UX1 USB Recording/Modeling Interface.

It sounds like a complicated piece of equipment, but that is not the case at all. You can get one at Musicians Friend too. It’s what I use and I couldn’t be any happier. The guitar effects are great and easy to use. It plugs right into your computer with a USB cord.

Next we will get started on the software.

What kind of SNR does a $45 mixer have? I think most people will find that anything less than 85db(weighted) is going to be unbearbale after a while. Can one be had for $45?

This will be a simple set up for recording with a computer, a Behringer EURORACK UB802 Mixer is on sale at musician friend and will work fine if someone is low on money. By all means if you have the money, something bigger or better is something you should get for better results, but a smaller mixer will get you a decent sound.
