Does Cupcake make the G1 much better?

I’ve had the long awaited cupcake (Android version 1.5) software update on the T-mobile G1 for almost a week now. The cupcake update had been rumored for several month now, with leaked photos and developer videos.
I must say I am impressed with the update. Most of the changes are subtle with new skin on certain user interfaces. The camera application is faster as advertised. The additions video recording and blue tooth was in dire need. The onscreen keyboard is the feature that was added that I find myself personally appreciating the most. The keyboard is responsive and fast. I like the way you are able to roll you finger over a key to make sure you are pressing the right one. I don’t open the keyboard as much now unless I am writing a long email. The battery life also seems be slightly better. Prior to this release I was starting to feel a little Blackbery homesickness, but now I am as excited about my G1 as much as the day I brought it home.
What is your take on the the Android update?

I got my Cupcake the other night on my way home from work. Because I work for T-Mobile, I have been asked a lot of questions about it. Now that I have been able to test it out for myself, I must say it’s pretty awesome. I’m not a big fan of the on screen keypad but the camera fix is probably the best improvement. The device seems more responsive as well.

I’d be happy to tell you what I think about the Cupcake update for my G1, but T-Mobile has not deemed me worthy so far of an upgrade. I’m afraid since I wasn’t a first adopter, I’m relegated to last-of-the-last status. Well two more days to get it in May, though from previous reports, I should have had it long before now, even being last.
I’m looking forward to the on-screen keyboard. I like the physical one, but sometimes I just need a quick reply & it’s inconvenient to open the phone.

I was an early adopter, I got my G1 on the first day and I have been awestruck by the lack of impatience and blatant whining about people not getting their updates.
I love technology and sometimes I gotta have it now but I knew the update was on its way and in my past 6 years as a Tmobile customer they have been good with device updates.
All the product bashing I see in general, I have one response, don’t be the first to buy a product or the last and don’t complain when u choose to live on the bleeding edge and be an early adopter.

I’m a fan of the update. It was pushed to my phone on May 29. Based on what I was reading it might have been much later, so I was pleasantly surprised.
I appreciate the automatic portrait-to-landscape switch when you turn the phone (in Gallery, e-mail, browser I think, tho I use Steel usually)–this can be toggled in Settings. The camera responsiveness is much improved, not sure about the picture quality. Camcorder is very good and files are small (1.5 gig for a 30 second movie). Gmail has added features like checkboxes to select multiple emails for deletion, labels, etc. Overall I’m impressed, and it seems the mammoth wait at least allowed them to do it right.
My only complaint so far is that the phone now takes far longer to charge, at least in the 70-80% range. Maybe this a trade-off of improved battery life (is it improved?). Has anyone else noticed this?
