Fiscal Year 2009 Federal Deficit Projected to be $482 Billion

  • No Related Post

No, that isn’t a typo. In 2009, the Federal Deficit will be around $482 billion dollars. Can you honestly even picture that kind of money? It’s hard to even fathom such a staggering amount.

When you look at the expenditures of the United States, your mind will boggle even more. If we are to believe President Bush’s budget projections, this new budget will:

  • Balance the budget by 2012
  • Combat terrorism and protect the homeland to keep America safe
  • Promote economic growth and prevent tax increases to keep America prosperous
  • Address the challenges facing American families—quality education for their children,
affordable health care, rising energy costs, and falling home values
  • Spend taxpayer dollars wisely, focusing resources on programs that are getting results,
cutting wasteful spending, and holding the growth in non-security discretionary spending to
    less than one percent
  • Slow the unsustainable growth of entitlement spending with sensible reforms

Wow. Those are some mighty lofty goals, Mr. President. Call my cynical, but I just don’t see any of those things happening by 2012. Oh sure, they’re wonderful goals. I absolutely agree that each and every one of those things are seriously important.

What I know will happen is that Government leaders will continue to receive huge raises each year, adding to their already insanely high salaries. Money will be appropriated to places that the general American population doesn’t feel it should go. More will be spent on the war than will be spent on Education and Health care combined.

When is the last time you remember a balanced budget, or a surplus of money in the Government? I don’t know about you, but it hasn’t been in any of my 37 years on this Earth.

It’s really very simple, but no one wants to talk about the real reason we have huge deficits. It’s not the the military, education, agricultural subsidies, or congressional salaries. All those expenditures are dwarfed by direct transfer payments to individuals (welfare, social security, medicare, medicaid, AFDC, food stamps, etc., etc., etc.). It’s these “entitlements” (a convenient term liberals thought up so people think they can’t ever go away), that represent 70% of the federal budget.

The other thing people have to realize is that taxes are the crack cocaine of politics. If you think raising taxes will help the budget situation over the long term, you’re a fool. They’ll just be new programs, new people to “help”, and new ways for government to be our nannies.

By the way, does anyone even know what the federal Department of Education does? Do they fund schools? No. Do they pay teachers? No. Do they buy books for kids? No. Do they operate a large university system? No. Then what do we have one for?

I at least understand the military.

No matter what any Politican says, he isn’t telling the “whole” truth! If those damn radical Muslims hadn’t started WW3, our Federal Budget would probably be balanced right now. They are making everything cost a lot more because of the added security necessary for every aspect of our lives. Then because the freaking Left and idiot Green folks not wanting us to have Nuclear and drill for our own Oil, we are going down the tube.

I do want a clean Environment but that will take some time to figure out. Rather than burn SUVs and Neighborhoods those Groups should try to figure out a realistic clean energy source. I think the real goal of those people are to eliminate people from the Earth so the other animals can have a better life.

Clinton had a few years of *surpluses*, let alone balanced budgets. It wasn’t until the current joker-in-chief decided that, with revenues falling due to an economic slowdown, the best move was to cut taxes extraordinarily to cut revenues *even more*, leaving us absolutely no room for emergencies.

Emergencies such as, ohhh, a terrorist attack and the related war (Afghanistan), followed by the foolish optional war* (Iraq), followed by MORE tax cuts.

(* I support our troops, and don’t begrudge a single penny spent in defending their lives, regardless of which war they are fighting - but when I think of the wasted resources - soldiers, money, etc - that went into fighting a country that WAS NOT A THREAT TO US, I want to cry.)

Now McCain wants us to believe he will balance the budget. How? Buy cutting pork barrel spending and by “savings” of not having to pay for the Iraq war. News to Mr. McCain… Even if pork is $100B in the current budget, cutting 100% of it will not offset a $300B deficit. Oh, and those savings from Iraq? Although they will truly be savings, the money spent there is not included in that $300B.

Before either of those jokers considered running for President, they should have taken an elementary math class, where they teach such advanced subjects as Addition and Subtraction.

I’m sure some smart-aleck is going to note the “fact” widely touted from many new-agey sources that “according to the Mayan calender 2012 will be the end of the world”, and suggest that perhaps that is why 2012 is specified as when the budget will finally be balanced.

Oh, wait . . . I guess one just did . . .

. . . ronn! :P

Professional Smart-Aleck. Do Not Attempt.

Check First year of GWB’s administration, and the last few years ot clinton’s administration. You’ll see we had a budget surplus.
