The RFID tag is coming! As they become common and soon will become part of our lives (whether we like it or not I might add) this article shows that there are a lot of questions and concerns that still need to be addressed. The scenario in the story should be a real eye opener to the industry that is pushing the use of these tags. Will they take it seriously? Hard to say, but if history repeats itself, it won’t until there is a disaster.
The sheer number of tags that will be in use says if the proper safeguards aren’t in place, entire electronic infrastructures could be devastated. Then there is this story about software used to store credit card transactions and how it could be inadvertently storing the user’s information. How soon will it be before our credit cards contain RFID tags with our personal information? The industry will push the use by citing the convenience factor, but ask yourself: at what price? Maybe I’m just being paranoid, but I can see so many ways that thieves, crooks, and others can circumvent these systems because the threat wasn’t taken seriously.

This technological breakthrough, the Chipless RFID smart labels, can help us unveil an identity and other important information when scanned and scrutinized electronically. The greatest advantage they boast of is that they do not incorporate a microchip to store data and information; this is infact an added advantage as this reduces their cost considerably as in comparison to chip RFID. It is forecasted that the chipless electronic components and devices can strongly hold the market and can show a growth rate of approximately 45%.
