Matt,
I am in Gonzales, La which is between New Orleans and
Baton Rouge. I have been working at a local shelter
here which is housing 2000 displaced victims of
Katrina. Thankfully, we have turned the corner on this
disaster and the basic human needs of these people are
being met. The American Red Cross is a fantastic
agency. Food, medicine, water, clothing, toys,
blankets, etc. are pouring in from across the country. What we need most now is a way to connect families
that have been torn apart. As you know, there are
dozens of websites that have been put up to list
survivors and the missing. I am not even certain that
it is possible, but what we need is a website that
could comb the dozens of sites and check for a name in
all the locations. This would greatly simplify our
effort to locate loved ones.If you could do anything in this regard, thousands
would be grateful. Thanks, and keep up the great work.
Billy
(Update, it looks like something is already in place with a project known as the “Katrina PeopleFinder Project“. Thanks Greg!)
