Britons Growing ‘Digitally Obese’

I was intrigued when I first saw the headline: Britons growing ‘digitally obese’. What in the world does digitally obese mean? But after reading the article I understood and it made me think. Looking at my PC and all the files stored on there I realized I was obese too (so it’s not just a British thing). My “My Documents” folder is filled with old Word documents, PowerPoint files, and other junk that I have saved for some reason.

But, as hard drives shrink and we use our gadgets more and more it’s only going to get worse in my opinions. The “pounds” are going to keep adding up. I see it happening to me now. Where I used to take only a few photos with my 35mm, I now can take over a hundred with my digital camera and save them all. It’s too easy to do and there’s no real reason to slim down except that I need to keep my file plan up to date. But at what point do we as individuals have just too much? Are we all going to turn into the digital equivalent of the old man/woman living down the street whose house is crammed full of 20-30 year old magazines and newspapers stacked to the roof with 50 cats running wild through the house? But then again does it really matter? It’s all digital so it’s not like I’m creating a fire or health hazard. But then we can always afford to lose a few pounds, can’t we?
