Expounding On Never Ending Complexities…

Gnomie Stu Kopelman responds to Matt Hartley’s Let The Cockroaches Have It:
This really opens up a can of worms. There are many universal events that I believe have far-reaching impact upon the heavenly bodies, just as there many global events that have far-reaching effects upon the earth. Yet no one has power enough to control either. I would like to veer off this celestial space ride, however, and zero in on the thinker of these things - the man on the street. And it is true, destruction comes at a high price, and if we are destroying one another, we are and will continue to pay the price; nothing is free - not even the end!
Why do we do this? Is it “fate?” Is it coincidence? Is it genetic? Who do we
turn to to find out? A fortune teller? A prophet? God?
Richard Feynman, a Cal-Tech, Nobel prize-winning physicist determined that his
three-month study of the human brain was far too exhaustive; he chose to go
back to Quantum Electro-Dynamics, where things were less complex. Knowing him
personally gave me the sense of standing at the feet of a hundred-foot giant.
Einstein concluded that he was no larger than one of the infinite number of
sand grains on the ocean sea shore; he was only large enough to recognize it.
But it is interesting that towering giants, such as Feynman and Einstein,
consider themselves to be not only small, but the smallest. These are not men
with false humility, but men who have grown up to realize just how helpless,
dependant, and fragile we are. Steven Hawking, one of the most brilliant
physicists of our time, concluded that after everything is said and done,
nothing in our universe could have happened by chance; it is far too complex
and too organized for it not to have been thought out. A Creator with intelligence far beyond our worldly understanding. Not even in the same league!
I get the feeling that we humans are so filled with ourselves, that nothing
past our own eyesight is ever seen… that nothing past arm’s length is ever
attained. No mystery, no awe, no hope… no faith. We are a race that does not
concern itself with more than a dollar in the pocket and a beer close at hand.
Patience, perseverance, integrity, and a “bending-over-backwards kind of
honesty” are truths that have fallen as deeply as we have fallen. Unable to
take what we desire at will, we lie, cheat, and steal. Step on your neighbor,
friend, or brother. Rape, murder, anger, and rage are traits that become the
heart of those wishing to fill themselves with instant pleasures. And none of
this will be taken soberly.
We humans nod, affirm, agree, but no more than
that, because it is not in our nature to act upon it. We call ourselves
civilized, with technological credentials, having a vast network of knowledge
and communication. We think our pockets are lined with riches. But we are poor.
Our hearts are bankrupt, our minds corrupt, and our souls as blank as
one stealing his fork into a piece of meat without thought and without
understanding. The world cries out, “foul, no fair - kill him.” “He has
addressed the problem in us all.” And because of that, the problem-solver
becomes the problem, and the world must rid itself of it. The truth has always
been the stopping point where pain is too unbearable. The truth has always
been the source of great tribulation, trial, and suffering, attempted to be
destroyed by those who deny it.
Plastic surgeons make billions of dollars
creating faces anew because the real us is never good enough. We deny our very
identities. We slink in darkness, afraid that a little bit of light might get
on us - that someone else might see, veiling even our names; prostitutes
become “ladies of the evening;” homosexuals become “gay;” political corruption
is assigned “political correctness.” X-rated movies twenty years ago are now
PG-rated, But we do not listen. We shut our eyes, hoping to gain a moment to
recompose ourselves, but we cannot, and soon we exchange the truth for a
lie, and believe it. So we build more educational institutions in the hope to
enlighten, more prisons to corral the bad. We embrace the watchful eye of the
government, but it goes on, and grows worse. Why? Because it comes from a
heart of men degenerate by nature. We think we are strong, but we are weak;
think we are macho, but are cowards at heart.
Is there a cure? Yes there is, but it cannot be administered from within the
corrupt heart. It must come from a pure heart outside it, that sees through.
The change cannot come from a mold - a template of the past. It must be pure.
Who? Who is so pure that is willing to touch the untouchable? Or do we deny
that, too?
