Wi-Fi may soon indicate “wifely fidelity” if the current trend of online affairs among married people continues. At least two dating websites even cater to admittedly married members. (URLs withheld to discourage cyber cheating.) Major dating websites like Match.com ban this activity, but if you believe everyone’s online profile, I have an inexpensive oceanside lot in Baja that might interest you. Even more disturbing to me is the fact that this information on cyber-flirting (neologisms abound) was accumulated and presented by the Christian Science Monitor, a family-oriented publication if there ever was one. Perhaps they see it as a cautionary tale. You can dig the dirt online at the USA Today’s Web Guide.
The article includes comments by authors David Greenfield and Marlene Maheu, lawyers Mark Guralnick and John Mayoue, and a “former technology expert” who helped a friend catch her cyber-cheating husband. Some of the signs that signal potential online affairs include spending excessive time at the computer and having multiple email addresses.
