This is a miracle AV! I use it on my dad’s new laptop. It finds and removes many trojans, droppers, and other forms of malware. It has even removed that annoying “Vundo” trojan. http://www.avast.com
go. NOW!
Review:
UI: 4/5 (needs work)
Everything Else: 5/5 (Just works)
Total: 4.5/5

Avira AntiVir Personal supposed to be less demanding on the system, so I migrated away from Avast!
Incidentally, you needn’t run all the realtime processes: I just ran the standard shield and I was probably safe enough in limited user account.

After reading folks praising ‘Avast’ on the Lockergnome Forum, I decided to try it out on my PC, a few weeks ago. It lasted for 2 days before swapping back to AVG V.8 (Free), I’d never had so many time-outs and snail-like speeds - both in and out.
Oddly though, it worked fine on Mrs WereBo’s PC (both PC’s use WinXP SP3), no time-outs or slowness, totally transparent to incoming and outgoing data..

I have had Avast on two PC’s for a couple of years. Both have XP HE one with SP2 and the other SP3. I’ve never had a problem. The only slowness is during e-mail downloads but that is to be expected. At the same time I’ve turned off checking for virues on out going e-mails. Why check for out going virues if your system is clean.

I think AVG is the best AV for Windows. The only problem with Avast is that it slows down the computer.
