Windows Is unsecure, but honestly so is every OS

I have to say Windows is worth less than dog scat but it gets the job done. Linux isn’t flawless but no-one cared to learn bash and write a virus and OS X is really BSD w/ eye candy.  BSD is built on the stability of UNIX and Linux is a darn good copy of unix. but all in all there is no stability at an OS’s release. Give vista a few months and it will be ok. We hated XP at first too right?

I have to agree with you there. Microsoft may have messed up, but they are moving to make vista less and less of an issue. Eventually, people may begin to regret all the vista hating. One of my friends was talking to another today, he said that the only reason people don’t like vista is because they aren’t willing to pay new age prices for the new age system. He then continued by stating that Apple computers wouldn’t be all that if we could buy a bare bones minimum power customized models like we are used to doing with windows.

I would say no matter what Operating System you are running, run anti-virus, anti-spyware and a firewall, also keep it up to date. All programs run into security holes and some are over looked, just so happens Microsoft overlooked a few of them.

If Apple had the market share that Microsoft had, it would be equally insecure - or close.

I agree with you points.

I think Vista came in after XP like XP came in after 98. Vista is actually more easily secured than XP [XP can be secured but no casual user understands how, whereas 98 lacking limited user permissions was flat out insecure]. XP requires much more RAM than 98 to run properly; same with Vista versus XP [and for the newer motherboard or newer purchased computers RAM in Gigs is pretty inexpensive]. Each new O/S has less crappy utilities than the previous built in: or you can buy utilities to make up for the deficiency. I had a very few issues with XP, having bought a computer with it fresh minted: otherwise it worked fine. Vista not only has operating system kinks being worked out, but bad/cheap vendor drivers, and crappy junkware which vendors like Dell/HP loaded on their systems to save a couple of bucks: all this makes the “Vista experience” slow and unstable.

Aside from the fact that 32 bit Vista is poking up against the 4 Gig RAM max, the system is not half bad for what it does.

I think Mi¢ro$oft screwed the pooch when they failed to stick up for their own creation, allowing the myth that Vista sucks to gain credence. Every O/S sucks, just ask Three Trolls In A Baggie.

So if you run XP probably stay with it [and RAM up from 512MB-2 GB]. OTOH, if you buy a new computer, probably Vista is great [with 2-3 GB RAM], not too expensive, and easier to make relatively secure.

Now there are those [including journalists who have nothing better to do than string words with the expectation of payment] who say just wait for Windoz 7. How does history, ancient or modern, allow one to imagine 7 will be anything but a disaster straight out of the box? In a few years with SP2 or whatever, 7 might be a great system, whatever it might be, and likely an improvement on Vista as fresh minted–or not.

On the third hand, if you are a geek or a casual user of the Internet, why not have someone install Ubuntu for you [with 512MB-1.5 GB RAM] and be done with Micro$oft all-to-gether?

Read this article and you will understand why vista has insurmountable problems.

As for all operating systems being insecure, I prefer one which doesn’t need a virus scanner update every day, doesn’t need a spyware scanner and has a firewall which is utterly transparent to the user. I have used linux for eight years without security problems as it is secure by design; windows is insecure by design. There are currently 1,200.000 viruses for windows and about 10 for linux.

BSD Sucks! OS X Sucks! Linux Sucks! Windows Sucks! but some suck more than others… ;)
