The long awaited single player demo for Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare hit the web late last week from Activision and developed by Infinity Ward.

I downloaded the Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare Single Player Demo on Friday night and I must say that I am impressed with it. My biggest complaint really is that the demo was too darn short, which DID leave me thirsting for more as they had planned. CoD 4 : Modern Warfare will most likely be my most played game once it comes out. The graphics were very realistic and detailed even for my aging BFG Nvidia Geforce 7950 GT OC, which was giving on average around ~40 FPS. At times I did see the frame rates drop down to 29 FPS but it was still very playable, Although not ideal.

The gameplay is nice and smooth and as I saw on some forums that posters were suggesting they feel more BF2 like. Although they are obviously similar I still think the CoD 4 : MW control feel better. I find it hard to really get a good feel for them until I get to play the multi player version when the speed, timing and reflexes really come into play in the controls. Although you can test youself with the harder difficulty settings in the game, it just can’t give you the same challenge that human players will. Over all they feel pretty close to the Call of Duty 2 controls for PC and it’s kind of refreshing after playing some other First Person Shooter games recently.
The weapons look great and the newly added effects are fun to toy with. I again read some complaints about certain guns going through walls and then not the fridges that are located in various rooms. It’s a good point but I think the main object we would most like is to penetrate walls and we can so that’s going to be another tactic added to the battlefield. Different walls that are made from different materials is the deciding factor on how well you can shoot through the wall, as well as the gun being fired too. The sniper rifle to me seems to be a bit much, I mean we can’t really say now until the retail version is out but if you can shoot a semi automatic sniper rifle while staying in your scope then it might be a little overwhelming in multi player.
If you were a fan of the previous Call of Duty games then you should really check out the CoD 4 : Modern Warfare Single Player demo today. It’s around 1.5 gigs but well worth it and I garuntee you’ll play the short, but really enticing mission more then once.
