Game Console Peripheral Clutter

Lately I have been trying to determine whether to banish the PS2 to the basement. I decided that I can’t bring myself to do it yet because I have invested so much into it. I have all the Rock Band gear. The drums, 2 guitars and a microphone. I also have a headset, network card module, 3 memory cards, 2 controllers and about 30 games. It’s just way too much for me to accept that the thousands I have spent in the last 10 years is almost worthless now.

As I was looking at all of my PS2 stuff, I saw a Mario Kart Wii wheel mixed in the bunch. If the amount of peripherals for my PS2 wasn’t bad enough, I can only imagine a day when the Wii will have to be banished to the basement. Here is a list of things that will eventually be obsolete along with my Wii:

  • 2 Wiimotes
  • 3 Mario Kart Wheels
  • 1 Rock Band Guitar
  • 1 Rock Band Mic
  • 1 Rock Band Drum Set
  • 2 Nunchucks
  • 2 Wii-Motion Plus Modules
  • 12 Games and growing

Gamers are spending too much money on the hardware that goes with our $60 games. All of it one day will be banished to the basement or local second-hand store. It’s a hell of a lot to invest in for only a few years. All of this illustrates the perfect reason why PC gaming is so much better. Vista jokes aside, when was the last time you had a game or a peripheral you bought for your PC 10 years ago that didn’t still work today? I still play Quake in Windows XP and I can use the Microsoft controller I bought 7 years ago.

Sure games take longer to hit PC, but $30 for games like Street Fighter IV is awesome! Guitar Hero for PC comes with a guitar that I’m sure will last as long as the franchise does. I think I’ve made up my mind. No more consoles with only 1 controller included. PC gaming is the way to go.

I agree with you. I’m a gamer myself and I play online games like Aion Online, WoW and EQ which we all know like console games will eventually be gone once the publisher decides to stop investing on the game. It will hurt real bad since the time, money and effort you invested will be gone in just a snap.

They both have there pros and cons. I like console games better, but that’s just me and I’m willing to fork out the extra $ even if I don’t have it. You also have to think about game availability for the PC.
