Review: Belkin Laptop Cooling Stand

My laptop gets very hot when I game. This creates a problem when I just want the laptop sitting on my lap. My girlfriend decided to get me the Belkin Laptop Cooling Stand (Model# F5L001) for my birthday to solve this problem. I wasn’t impressed from the start. The fan is located in a spot that most men might consider scary. Let’s just say that if you’re a man, don’t consider using this product unless you are wearing jeans.
Not only is the fan in a bad spot for a man’s anatomy, it’s also in a bad spot to get air. Your lap will get in the way of the air flow, rendering the product completely useless. Of course it does work as a device that lets air flow freely underneath your laptop. Something that can be accomplished with a simple lap desk also.
A minor annoyance is the wire that completely disconnects from the back very easily. The cable would slide out of the back whenever I adjusted my body position. I have also lost the wire and not been able to use the cooling fan. It would be more useful if it was permanently attached.
It’s been 5 months since my birthday and now the fan on the product is completely not operable. The few months of using it and bumping the fan a bit has knocked it out of line. It makes a grinding sound when you turn it on now. i tried to correct it, but some of the blades to the fan are so badly out of whack, they are almost broken.
This is one of the cheaper laptop cooling stands you can buy, and I can see why. You’re better off just getting a simple lap desk or spending a few dollars more to get a better one.
Overall Rating: Don’t bother
