MySpace Loses 50% of Its Traffic In a Year

Remember May 2008? You were on MySpace trying to get a one night stand with the chick that won’t post photos of herself below the neck. You really didn’t like it when she turned out to be an 18 year old male in Nigeria requesting your help in claiming his $17 million lottery prize. Since then though, you have moved on to to better things. Ahh! Facebook. Not as spammy as MySpace, but getting there.

MySpace has lost 50% of its traffic in just a year thanks to the millions who have the same or similar stories as above. It cracks me up that Fox bought the site for $580 million in 2005. All for what would later become the wasteland of social networking. I, like most people haven’t touched my account in over 7 months. I wonder how many ads I have in my Inbox.

Is it that MySpace was just a sad site, riddled with technical problems from the start? Did it eventually have to fail? I wonder if Facebook has the same fate.
