Cramer vs. Stewart

I have been a fan of both Jon Stewart and Jim Cramer for some time. So I was interested to see them face off on The Daily Show last night. I expected a light-hearted, funny confrontation between the two , Instead, it was an uncomfortable to watch shellacking of Cramer’s character.

Cramer seemed to expect to be criticized. He was nervous and even said on his own show, Mad Money, that he’d be pummeled. But I believe Stewart took it too far. He made fun of the wacky things that Cramer does on his show, but Stewart’s show is on Comedy Central… so come on! He does goofier crap than Cramer.

Stewart also referred to Cramer treating the stock market like a game where people’s 401k’s are played with. Well, yeah! This is Cramer’s life! He’s into ‘the game’ of the stock market. He’s a TV personality as well, one that I believe for the most part has integrity and good character.

We knew it was unfair to have Cramer on Stewart’s ground. I just think he took the interview too far. I would’ve liked it if he gave Cramer a bit more time to talk. Most interviews have 2 sides. This one just featured Stewart ranting and it all could’ve been accomplished without Cramer’s presence.

[...] Cramer vs. Stewart – who came out victorious? [...]

Your Cramer Vs. Stewart bog is right on target. Jon Stewart has let his personal political feelings get in the way of what makes a comedian funny. Non partisan humor. Jay Leno said ” that if I let people know what side I support I have failed as a comedian. You must make fun of all sides as equally as you can.” It is far easier and better for a King to tell a joke, than for the court jester to start giving advice like he is a king.

Jim Cramer will be around for a long time Why? Because he is a financal genius. He got to where he is by being smart. Take away the gags and wacky stuff, and there is still a lot of financal instruction and insight for the individual investor, which is his audiance. He was good with Kudlow and no gags.

Jon looks at Cramer’s show and is pained by the amaturish gags and jokes. But he fails to see the point. Emirl is not a good chef because he says BAM. Take away the BAM and he is still a great cook. Take away the gags and Cramer is still a great finacial wizard.

Jon Stewart didn’t get to where he is by being a politcal pundit or finacal genius. He is the Court Jester and the quickest way to end his career is to start thinking people will take him seriously. Hey Jon look at Rosie ODonnell, or Roseanne Bar. Hell watch Chris Rock’s last HBO special. it was so painful to watch him go off the deep end against Bush that I had to turn it off. I was not funny anymore. Jon remember why people watch you. When you are not funny people will turn you off.

The End Of Jon Stewart

“but Stewart’s show is on Comedy Central.”

Yes it is. And that proves that ozteck missed the entire premise of Stewart’s criticism.

Stewart is a confessed comedian who takes on serious topics.

Cramer pretends to have legitimate, serious, business credentials while using juvenile antics to explain the “game” of investing.

As Stewart pointed out to Cramer investing is not a game,
Cramer was struck speechless and defenseless.

You acknowledge that The Daily Show is a comedy show and that Stewart does goofier stuff. So it strikes me that the idea Stewart “went to far” elevates the Daily Show a little higher than a comedy show that does goofy things.

I honestly don’t watch Cramer, so I only know about him from recent articles and what I saw on Stewart’s show. I get the idea Cramer portrays a tough guy who is willing to play hard ball with the people he interviews. That picture of him leaves doubt, in my mind, that Stewart was any less fair to Cramer than Cramer himself has been to many a person he interviewed.

I also think you’re wrong about the balance of time in the interview. I think Cramer did manage to … retrieve his character much more in person. Though it did look like he was unable to rebut much of Stewart’s factual material. It seemed to me Cramer accepted culpability, and admitted he’s also an entertainer who doesn’t deserve to be placed on a pedistal.

IMO, Stewart is one of TV history’s most gifted interviewers, and, rather than call him a goofey comedian, I’d be more interested in hearing someone talk about whether the “facts” Stewart presented were factual or not.

I agree with Marty B. and his take on Stewart. Additionally, dishing it out and taking it are two sides of the same coin. You gotta be able to do both. More humility on the part of Cramer may have gone a long way; and it would have only taken up 3 secs of air time.

You guys are missing the point.

Jon Stewart was placing blame on MSNBC as providing misinformation to the public on purpose because they are in bed with the wall street shysters who make their money off playing around with our 401k’s.

Jim Cramer denied this on behalf of the network and was not Stewart’s original target anyway. Cramer was just the first on-air personality to respond to it. Once that happened, I think both parties found an opportunity for ratings and/or free publicity.

The main thing is that it seems the only one you can trust on that channel is Suze Orman because she doesn’t explicitly say “put your money in Company X because they’re doing just fine and will be around for a long time.”

I think Jon Stewart showed how intelligent and prepared he was to address the monetary community as they should have been treated, harshly. That rich guys stole billions of our dollars and we are suppose to worry about Cramer, please. Cramer was lucky he didn’t get it worse.

Why should he get a break after the video tape was run showing how deceptive he was after admitting he manipulated stock prices through rumor and inuendo.

Guess none of you lost any real money.

Stewart is a freaken commedian so he does wacky stuff.

Cramer is a financial commentator. Why the F&^% is he doing wacky stuff. Stewart was spot on.

Cramer and his wacky show are symbol of what has happened to the financial markets and even financial network tv… it’s a clown show and now our money is gone cause we let clowns run the whole dam thing and tell us what to do with our money.

Stewarts job is to be a clown. Cramer’s was to give us financial advice, but instead he was a clown and now all of us our clowns with our 60% 401K losses. Ha that was totally funny Cramer … thanks for the entertainment value!

shame on jon stewart. ill never watch his show again. Cramer didnt deserve that. the economy sucks stop pointing fingers

What Do You Think?
