Clear a Cluttered Desktop

Yesterday I had about 50 icons cluttering my desktop. Today that number is down to about 10. Yes, I have been one of those people that are guilty of saving everything to my desktop and just leaving it there. I also launched all of my programs from Deskop icons. People that saw it made fun of me constantly, and you couldn’t even see my beautiful background of Kaley Cuoco (god she’s hot!).

I came across an article: Desktop Zen - Reducing Visual Clutter on your Desktop, and it’s loaded with many simple but good tips on clearing desktop clutter. The ones I found most useful were:

  • Get program launching icons off the desktop and pin them to the Start Menu.
  • Put documents in the My Documents folder.
  • Use the Quick Launch area for programs that are regularly closed and re-launched throughout the day.

These 3 tips really made a huge difference for me. I believe in using the Desktop to get current items done, but it gets out of hand if you don’t regularly organize things.

You must have not used any of the 9x versions of Windows. When too many icons were on the desktop there were problems elsewhere, because of the 3 - 64k heaps used to keep track of those things.

Those who grew up with those revisions of Windows learned that cleanliness is next to godliness.

Personally I’d rather stare at Katherine Heigl (since you seem to like blondes!)
