‘Guitar Hero is Not Real Guitar’

If you have played Guitar Hero or Rock Band or every talked about it, I’m sure you’re familiar with the following situation. You’re sitting there, eating your lunch while telling another person all about your Guitar Hero: World Tour purchase and how much you enjoy it. Then some douchebag has to try to inform you that your toy video game doesn’t teach you how to play real guitar. “You know, that game isn’t real guitar!”. Gee thanks Einstein! You mean my toy controller attached to my PS2 with the buttons and plastic flipper instead of strings isn’t real guitar? No way!

Despite the fact that people say this all the time, playing guitar in a game can teach you the difference between high and low notes. Now with drums added to the games, it really does teach you how to play drums. In fact they say if you can play drums on the Hard level of the game, you can play drums well in real life.

As for the other instruments, we all know it’s not real. It’s a game!  We also know that when we play Metal Gear, we aren’t really a stealth soldier that goes around taking out enemies.

My answer to those people is always, “Okay next time I won’t play Call of Duty, I’ll just grab a real gun and go around killing real people.”

No…playing guitar hero does not make you a drummer. It doesn’t teach you how to play drums either. It teaches you rhythm maybe, but I bet you get anybody who can beat whatever song on expert in guitar hero then try to put them on an acoustic set. They will fall on there face. I have been play drums for 10 years, nothing touches the real thing than well…the real thing. Saying that beating a game on a certain level then saying “IM A REAL DRUMMER NOW” is like getting new golf equipment, shooting better scores, then going “Im going to quit my job and go pro.”

Hold up champ. Keep your plastic “drum” contraption at home and leave the real drumming to musicians.

PS I like the game, but it doesn’t teach you anything other than rhythm and hitting color codes like DDR. You say its a game, but alot of people out there who talk about Guitar Hero talk about how good they are. You are right, it doesn’t mean anything to anyone. It just makes you douche and makes real musicians embarrassed that some idiot came up with this idea. We should really be ashamed for playing something like this. Go spend money on instuments, get the real language of music out there!

When they say that you can really learn the drums, they’re lying. You can learn rhythm, but there’s much more to playing the drums. Much more to it than hitting a drum in time.

It’s fine that it is just a game, but when the makers start saying you can learn the drums then their marketing bs has gone too far.
