BlueRay Struggles as Video is Going the Way of Music; Downloads

In a down economy, BlueRay is struggling. Nobody is buying the players or the movies. There is another reason why nobody’s buying. You can simply download what you need now. I can watch whatever I want by downloading them in high definition to my PC or Tivo. My cable company also offers OnDemand.  If I need to rent something, I have Netflix. All these options are better than a stack of discs sitting in a drawer that I will only use a few times if at all. I’m sure many people can relate to purchasing DVD’s that stay shrink wrapped for years without being watched.

This mirrors exactly what happened with the music industry. As bandwidth increases, it becomes easier to download video as well as audio. BlueRay is needed in the PC world because of the amount of data you can store. When it comes to video though, it will be adopted by some, but not near as many as DVD.
