Android Won’t Be Nearly As Big As iPhone

The Andoid Phone is set to come out next week. Everybody seems to be saying that it will be a definite iPhone killer. HA! Sure the Android phone is cool for us techie geeks, but these people that are pitting it as an iPhone killer are way off base. The iPhone is cool, sexy, and most important, made by Apple. Jobs can poop out anything and people will buy it just so they can say they have one.  These Android phones are only going to be scooped up by the few techy geeks that appreciate geeky, Linux things. The mainframe admin in your company will have one. The professional blogger. Maybe a handful of tech support reps. Don’t forget the people that just plain want to be different.

Apple does a good job at creating a spectacle to gernerate excitement about their products. The iPhone 3G created huge lines around buildings. They also do a good job with marketing the iPhone toward geeks, beatnicks, corporate execs and your average yuppie. Almost everybody wants one. I don’t see the Android breaking any sales records and I don’t see it creating a spectacle. Though it will live a good life mixed among the PalmOS and Windows Mobile phones.
