Video Games Are Getting Boring

I played Metal Gear 4 tonight for about an hour. After about 45 minutes, the game started getting boring. I experience the same feeling with many games lately. It’s always the same thing. You try to beat a certain part of the game, then die. So you try again, remembering where everything is this time around. Things are always in the same place. That guy you have to take out to get across the bridge is always standing there with his back to you sleeping. You know as soon as you approach him, another enemy will appear. This is why gaming is getting boring. There is no randomness. Your ability to get through a level relies only on memory and nothing else.

In the day of classic gaming, it was very difficult to catch onto patterns. Pac-Man had a pattern, but no game you played was ever the same as the next unless you were a professional gamer like Billy Mitchell. Donkey Kong had a pattern, but I don’t think most people can figure it out. You never knew when and how exactly the barrels were going to roll. Tetris was popular because each piece you were dealt in a game were random. Almost every truly great classic game has random elements.

This type of randomness would be great if they were added to modern games such as Metal Gear 4. What if the enemy you have to take out is in a different position the second and third times you try to get through a level? Wouldn’t it be exciting to try a level multiple times and experience something completely different each time? It would add a whole new dimension to the game. A dimension that would eliminate the feeling of just walking through a pre-written movie and add replayability to the game.

Don’t play console games. They really are for kids anyway. PC Gaming is where its at.

true that, now that physx are out for pc, all the games coming out WILL be random, so just waiit awhile. or you could go back to the old old console games, i still play chrono trigger and earthbound!

Older games did have patterns, and probably had less randomness, the thing is this pattern did not make much difference as they were still damn hard!!!

HA! pc gaming has slowly been digging its own grave for years now. anything worth playing is on console.
the wii is for kids and girls.
ps3 has literally a handfull of good games.
xbox has a box full.
pc is getting weaker and weaker and seems that its dominated by the fact that console sales are through the roof and so theres little point in developers investing in engines that go beyond consoles grunt cos the return on investment will be too low.
pc are more powerful now ( they caught up and past console)
but you need to spend thousands on them and then they stuff up on you all the time. can fix them but takes hours on forums.
even then you only get to play crisis that looks any better than console.
pc gaming will never truly die but it will end up being something you do at the office when you have a bit of spare time. lol
the pc comunity is scattered
xbox live is at you finger tips. everyones there. wanna play seperate games but chat together? easy, no making sure you have the same chat software here.

you guys need to wake up and grab a console. get a pc when the grunt is 3x faster than console.
but be warned, you will pay thousands and a cheap xbox 720 will be out 6 months later with 30% more grunt that the best pc you can afford.

again i say……awaken!!! and enjoy.

and you can use the mouse is better thing cos i DO have sme of the sickest skill on COD with a controller. I can turn and shoot as quick as my eyes can see……..
