Ebay Traffic Down 11%

According to Compete.com, Ebay traffic is down 11% from the level it was a year ago. It’s a result of the huge auction site leaving their smaller sellers in the dust in favor for the bigger businesses. Ebay has clearly lost the vision that got them to be one of the biggest sites on the Internet. Every month it seems we read something new about Ebay pissing off its smaller users because of some change they’ve made. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Ebay is ripe for the picking when it comes to competition. I know it’s been tried before, but I believe if somebody combines the power of social networking with auctions where the focus is back on the little guy, it’s a win/win situation.
It would have to be a company with tons of money to burn though. The advertising must be immense to get the word out. Perhaps make the commercials look kind of like the Ebay commercials they use to run. If I had the money or the ability to deal with venture capitalists, I’d do it myself.

I’m doubting that all of that 11% is due to the reason given. I’d say the economy has something to do with it. The wealthy don’t need to worry about e-bay, and the poorer have less disposable income.

“I’d say the economy has something to do with it.”
That might make sense if retail spending hadn’t actually increased recently. Also sites like walmart.com and amazon.com are all up from a year ago. Overstock.com is up 22%. Bestbuy.com up 33%. Craigslist.org, also way up - 75%!
Ebay is one of the few that have followed a downward trend. I truly believe it’s because people are getting fed up.

Wow eBay traffic is down, but then is still most visited site over xmas? Traffic is down 11%? Maybe its all the scam artists finally getting hit hard. VLAD’s CREW was arrested this year…..
I bought over 10 things on eBay myself this year and I’m impressed compared to last year. Glad they are bringing in the big retailers. Buy.com not only gave me 50% -75% normal prices, they had my stuff on my porch in less than 48 hours.
Comparing Amazon Unique Visitors to eBay’s? Nill so Amazon is like 4 - 6million and ebay is over 16million.
Disgruntled Sellers should just shut up and actually work on Customer Service. Who tells there buyers they have to pay to ship back or call their distributor to work out issue yourself????
Sorry it was just a matter of time before Customer Service Online is #1 Priority to get Returning Buyers.

I have listed thousands of items in both eBay stores and Amazon. There is no way that Amazon can compete with eBay, eBay does suck in many ways but is much better than Amazon no matter what we all say. eBay pays immediately, Amazon holds the money for 2 weeks ( almost 3 when you get the money) the feedback system is worst than eBay where sellers ONLY leave feedback when they want to get a freebie. In Amazon you have to be the cheapest to actually make a sell, on eBay anyone has the same opportunities, Amazon comission is higher, plus they move the listings as they please. I also find out that Amazon uses fake accounts to boost sales for their own benefit, if sellers drive the prices down, Amazon will make a buck no matter what. on eBay you can actually talk to someone, for Amazon it is almost impossible to get help other than auto-responder. on eBay you be as creative as possible with your listings and manage your sales as you want, Amazon, forget about that. Amazon shuts down accounts and keeps all the money without a reason ( just search for Amazon sucks and you will see ), eBay sends warnings. eBay has still 18% of the ecommerce traffic around the globe and people have many more opportunities to sale and to also get great prices. I do think of Amazon as the Bank of America of internet, they are crooks, why dont you compare marketplaces such as Wigix, iOffer or Half.com instead? Amazon, please!!! I do hope that eBay fix all their issues but I still make much more money there and I get pay immediately, as a business person that has to make a big difference. if you are a seller compere and see and if you can open a store in those other marketplaces which are not bad and have been evolving based on avoiding the mistakes or eBay and Amazon. I do hope the other marketplaces take away customers and sellers from eBay but specially all from Amazon, unless their are dumb, let them stay in Amazon.

Traffic has dropped on my ebay site. Yes some of the small sellers in the past made the good and the big sellers look bad. Ebay is morphing into a new company and what it becomes is anyone’s guess.
