The Happening: Totally Not Happening

I went and saw The Happening last night. It was my first trip to the movies in almost a year. I don’t make it to the movies much, since many of them suck. The Happening was no exception. Before the movie began, I sat there wondering where the movie was going to go. I was curious as to what “The Happening” was. Well, the movie gives that away quickly. It’s also pretty lame when you find out. Then you follow the rest of the movie where people start killing themselves and a couple that has recently had problems with their marriage. They somehow fix them all while they are facing death. In between the scenes where the characters are running from the wind or screaming at dead bodies, you get to hear many cliche lines paired with really bad acting describing how they fell in love and why they love one another and blah blah blah. PUKE! I went to this movie to be freaked out, not for a love story!

The movie does provide some scenes that do that fulfill that ‘freak out’ need though. If you’re into seeing people mutilate and kill themselves, then you’ll be happy you saw this movie. I enjoyed those scenes, but the movie had nothing else to support it. You learn the premise early in the film and then the movie just ends. There was no twist at the end either.
