Mario Kart Wii is Fun, but Missing Many Features

This weekend I invested in a copy of Mario Kart Wii. What a fun game! I have already spent several hours playing this game with friends, by myself and online. I was a huge fan of the original Mario Kart for the Super Nintendo. I especially enjoyed the battle mode where you can face off against 1 other opponent and shoot items at them. This version though is missing the customizable features that are usually available in any video game these days. For example, sometimes I would like to get rid of the CPU opponents and race only human opponents. All of the other CPU controlled characters get in the way of a true death match between you and your friends. It would also be nice to be able to unlock the new tracks and characters in Grand Prix mode with a friend too. Instead you have to sit and race alone for a few hours to unlock everything.

Still, a lot of detail went into this game that makes it hugely enjoyable. The tracks will blow your mind with all the color and effects they added. On some of the tracks, it really feels like you are floating through space or bouncing off mushrooms. I also enjoy the reactions of the characters whenever they do anything, like when an accident happens and they look back at it as they pass.
Even without the extreme customizable features picky people like me want, the game is a must have for Wii owners. Pick up a copy if you can find one. Oh and if you’re getting another steering wheel, get the one made for Mario Kart. The third party versions don’t give you the extra button on the back of the wheel.
