Firefox Beginning to Suck

Lately I’ve been skeptical about Firefox. It seems lately they are bombarding us with updates, and with each one comes new problems. I appreciate them being on top of things, but the updates have caused many problems with my add-ons. It also seems that Firefox crashes about as many times as Netscape 6 used to, even when I have all add-ons disabled. Firefox has always taken up way too much memory, which is supposed to be adaptive based on how much RAM my system has available, but I no longer believe that. It seems to be quite a hog no matter what.
It doesn’t seem that Firefox 3 will make any major improvements. It looks and feels the same, only the engine is supposed to be much faster, and it is based on my first look at it. Over time though, the browser seems to only be getting more and more bloated instead of the trim and quick browser I remembered with 1.0. It might be time to switch back to IE or perhaps give Safari for Windows a try.

Good luck with the switch. I’ve attempted that a couple times in the last 2 years. And the one conclusion I’ve come to is that although the once petite and fast firefox may have added some bloat. It’s still above the others. I really wanted to like opera, I’ve heard it’s faster, i’ve heard all the hype. Aand I was let down. I tried Safari also, and it was gone within a few days. IE? I’ll pass. I have to use that for a few webapps at work that don’t play with firefox due to activex. What would be great to see is the “Full Featured Firefox” and a slimmed down memory skimping sister for those of us who like the interface but not all the bloat.)

Opera is the most compliant to standards, and that is why I use it. It has maintained its speed while adding features, and the upcoming version, codenamed Kestrel promises great things.
I don’t get religious about it, and don’t try to forcibly convert anyone, but if you can wean yourself from the extensions, Opera has most of the ability with much less bloat.

Why not go back to Firefox 1.0?

Are you running a software firewall? I was having the same problem with Firefox. But when I switched from Comodo to Jetico, the problem went away. I haven’t had Firefox crash since I switched.

I have been having insane problems with firefox lately. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one. I’ve been using firefox for years, but I will have no problem switching if they can fix their broken browser. These crashes and hangups are total ridiculous. That is why I switched from IE so very long ago.

I switched from Opera to FireFox years back for the extensions. I rarly shut down my system unless it has slowed down noticably. I don’t think I have crashed FireFox more then half a dozen times. At work I have to use either IE 7 or 6 and both crash at least once every other day.
