XPS is the Microsoft challenge to Adobe’s PDF format. If you are using Windows Vista, XPS support is built in. If you are using Windows XP, you will need to download the XPS Essential pack to view and make XPS documents. Follow these steps to create an XPS document:
1. In whatever application you are using to make the item you wish to make into an XPS, select the Print option.
2. Select Microsoft XPS Document Writer as your printer and click OK.
3. You will be prompted to save the file. Specify where to save the XPS file and enter a name for it.
4. Click Save to create the file.

I absolutely despise this file format. Lately, Microsoft has created two new file formats so they compete with Adobe: (1) XPS and (2) Silverlight. In the process of doing this, they are just making it harder to browse the web and to collaborate with others.

You’d think M$ would have more important matters to attend to than to create “another” type of pdf. Sorry, M$ don’t own and control pdf, so that’s there motivation.
One day, M$ might look at things from a ‘users perspective’ rather than a ‘whats best for M$ only’ perspective. I am dreaming on that, I know.
